Company Logo Series FOTD: DHL and McDonalds’

Red and yellow.

These two are both eye-catching primary colors, which is good for branding. Heh heh heh.

Today I’m featuring two corporate giants who both use these two colors, which are:

Seriously, red and yellow? Do you think that I’m going to take the “safe” route and slap yellow eyeshadow and red lips on?

Heh heh, think again! ^.^

Both of them are on the eyes! MUAHAHAHA!

Anyways, to start of, you need a white base, because the colors will lose some of their brightness if you apply them onto your skin, particularly if you’re not fair, like me.

So, take your brightest yellow color and place it all over the eyelid, below your crease/socket line. Alternatively, you can go right at the crease/socket line so that you can be lazy and not blend so much when you put on the next color there.

As I did not have a true, bright red, I decided to use a burgundy color right in the crease/socket line. Also, apply the same color to the lower lashline as well, leaving the lower inner corners to the yellow you used earlier.

You might want to blend out the edges of the red with a highlighting color, any color would do.

Line your eyes however you wish, and apply mascara. 2-3 coats would be good, and don’t forget the bottom lashes too! ^.^

*Note: Contrary to what you see in these pictures, the glitter fallout in real life is not really noticeable. My camera seems to have picked up a lot, but don’t worry, it’s not really there. If you decide to try this look, just make sure to apply your foundation AFTER you’ve cleaned up the glitter particles with a wet wipe meant for cleansing your face*

Since this look is so warm, I decided to go along with it using a peachy-pink blush and a soft pink lip. Heh heh. This way, you’ll only shock the people close to you when you close your eyes. So remember to blink REALLY REALLY SLOWLY heh heh heh.

New FOTD Series: Company Logos! Featuring: Ferrari S.p.A

I am a girl with strange, strange extremities in terms of hobbies, I must admit.

On one hand, I am dearly fascinated by the “mainstream” world of politics, economics, businesses, as in all the topics you can find on CNN and whatnot, and on the other, there is the more, err… artistic side, where reading, music, writing and other forms of entertainment take place.

Hence I decided to merge all of these loves of mine into one and thus the Company Logo series is born! ^.^

Some of these looks might be wearable, and some might not, we’ll just have a look and see what I come up with, alright?

Today I have for you, Ferrari S.p.A, which is the manufacturer of Ferrari cars, but you didn’t need me to tell you that, did you? I’ve told you lovelies that I’m in deep, deep love with these beautiful works of art that I’d have to work for centuries to even afford one, I also am a loyal, loyal fan of the Ferrari F1 team for the 12th year running. So, I decided to make the first post in the series, in honor of it. ^.^

As you can see, the colors to be found here are black, yellow, red, white and green. Of course, the green, white and red are the colors of the Italian flag. Also, due to the fact that the colors are so bright, I decided to use matte colors to make the look a little bit more subdued.

First, apply a white eyeshadow into the inner corner of your eyelid. This will brighten up the eye by bringing more light into that area as well. It is a crucial step because you don’t want the other colors to completely overwhelm you.

Next, take the brightest yellow you have and apply it to the center of the eyelid. Remember to blend the edges out so you don’t have strips of color placed next to each other!

The green must be the brightest true green you have, because, other greens just look meh for me, that is. Plonk it to the outer corners of the eye, right beneath the crease. For this look, I do not recommend winging anything out, just because it’s too danged bright heh heh.

We move on to the crease/socket-line, which is rather easy to do this time. Using the most precise brush you have, take a black color and trace it along wherever you want your crease/socket-line to be, or where it actually is. Blend it out and viola!

Mix the black and yellow and apply them to the lower lashline. If you dare, and your eyes can take it, bring it up to the waterline too.

Line the eyes in any manner you wish, put on false lashes and/or mascara and the eyes are done!

Of course, you have to have the red lips! It’ Ferrari for God’s sakes! ^.^

I kept the cheeks to a bare minimum by contouring with a lighter bronzer.

Chinese New Year Recap! (First of The Week in Photos series!)

I have decided to emulate my dear blog pal Sukie and post shots of stuff that I have taken with my camera throughout the week. This is because I have since changed my phone from the dinky iPhone 3G which lasted 3 years, which gave me huge problems by lagging and dropping calls, to a HTC Sensation XE (never really was an Apple girl). Since I now have a decent camera on my phone, I can now take pictures anywhere and everywhere, yay!

This week’s post will be about my Chinese New Year Week!

The Chinese New Year festivities have reached the halfway mark, and the string of holidays from the office (forced leave or not) have ended, while lil kiddies have to go to school tomorrow. (Yours truly has an Accounts final to study for too!)

Throughout the previous week, from the 22nd right till today, my house has been packed with at least 20 people at every single time. Let’s count shall we:

Grandma
1st Uncle and family = 3
2nd Uncle and family = 3
1st Aunt and family = 4, but since my cousin has a wife already, he’d sleep back at his house, which makes it 5 in the day and 3 at night.
2nd Aunt and family = 3, but they don’t stay at my house.
My family = 4
3rd Aunt
4th Aunt = 4
5th Aunt = 5 including her maid.

That’s 29 of us from 8AM to 10PM in my house heh heh heh, imagine the noise, the sheer amount of food and drinks, the company, and the worst of all, the toilet queues!

The temple we frequent is more than 100 years old! It has since been refurbished, but due to Chinese belief, you can’t take pictures of temples, so I only took the photo of this stone.

We even appeared on the local daily!! My mom was interviewed by a reporter on why we always come to the Chinese Kuan Yin Temple in Klang (picture below)

Well, we don’t always sit at home, gossip, eat and drink and gamble, this year we also had some outings like, going for karaoke and visiting Siamese Temples without the adults, er, the older generations.

Apparently, you tell the bird your wish, your name and your Chinese age (which is your normal age + 1 year), make sure that it faces you when you speak and let it fly! (Sorry for focusing on the wrong thing though… Was under the sun when I took this)

Ushering In The Year of the Dragon: Happy Chinese New Year (and a FOTD to boot!)

Chinese New Year is one of my favorite times of the year. One week of non-stop gambling, eating, drinking, and just plain being with the family. It is utterly intoxicating.

Seriously, no festival, religious or cultural, can ever top Chinese New Year for me.

So, in order to celebrate CNY in style, and send off the “old” year, I decided to do a very, very CNY-ish FOTD for you guys, featuring the colors of red, gold and black!

First, take a yellow gold eyeshadow and place it onto the inner corner of your eyes. Make sure that this gold is the yellowest gold you can find, because that is the color of well, gold, as in the metal.

You’ll want to apply it a little ways more than the inner 1/3 of the eye, so that the burgundy (or red) color can blend into it nicely.

After that, apply the burgundy color on the center of your lid. Here, you can go as far as you want, because the outer corner can be extended to make your eyes look longer.

I applied the black at the very, very outer corner and pulled it into the crease/socketline without introducing more color.

If you like, you can use a highlight color to blend out the edges, but as I like it this way, so I didn’t really do it.

To really open up your eyes, add more of the gold into the inner corner of the eye, extending the color to the lower tearduct and halfway into the lower lashline.

Apply the same black that you have on the outer corner on the other half of the lower lashline.

As for the eyeliner, you can do anything with it, I did a gold eyeliner pencil for my water line, and cat-eyes for the upper lashline.

I have two lip looks for you this time!

The first is a red lip stain, because what is CNY without red lips? Since you’ll be eating and drinking all the time, a lipstain is better because it stays on longer, and is a little sheerer.

The second is a soft, shiny pink, perfect for any occasion! ^.^

Review: Urban Decay 24/7 Liquid Eyeliner in Perversion

Honestly, I got this baby on a whim. I wanted a liquid eyeliner that has a firmer tip than my Etude House one, and one that could last longer than the Revlon Colorstay one, so a trip down to Sephora I went!

Actually I was going after the MUFE liquid liners, but the SA was being such a terrible biatch that I just went to UD. Our conversation went like this:

SA: (Huffy voice) Miss, what are you looking for?

Me: I’m looking for your liquid liners. May I ask how to they compare to the Urban Decay ones?

SA: Sorry wor, I dunno.

Me: Well, from what I’ve seen online, yours have a sponge tip and the UD one has a brush tip.

SA: Then up to your preference lo!

Well, in the end, it was UD who got my business. I usually am not picky about the services provided by SAs, but I seriously COULD NOT tolerate that woman that day.

Oh, and for you lovelies who frequent Sephora in Starhill, KL, do notice that the SAs for Clinique, Estee Lauder, Dior, Shiseido and MUFE do not work for Sephora. I’m not sure about Smashbox, Benefit and Givenchy, but the rest are manned by Sephora’s own SAs, who are friendlier than their other counterparts.

Heh heh, well, back to the star of the show.

Lookit that brush, it’s so pointy and so, so fine!

The formula is black and shiny. Do be careful though, it will not dry as quickly as it should if you packed on too much product.

Seriously, this is the only liquid liner which could give my double winged tips without looking horrifyingly silly!

The best thing about this product?

Heh heh, it stays there even without primer, right until you want to take it off.

The second best thing?

It just flakes off when you wash it. No rubbing, tugging, pushing or pulling!

Yay!

I like using this eyeliner when I want some definition on my lashes, but don’t want the drama. The fine brush is thin enough to get right IN the lashes, which is a feat that no gel liner can achieve.

Yes, I can live without my cat-eye liner, seriously.

Retails at RM 75 at Sephora Starhill and KLCC.

Pros: Fine tip for precise lines, lasts long, does not smudge/flake off.

Cons: A little pricy.

FOTD: Lisa Eldridge’s Navy Smokey Look

So, cult fave makeup artist on Youtube, Lisa Eldridge posted this video yesterday:

The effect on the various people who followed her in any social media you can get her was BOOM.

Fellow blogger Lily even blogged about this specific video.

Why the buzz?

Well, perhaps in my circles, it was a simple, elegant look, featuring a… erm… Japanese/English model (sorry for the hesitation, am trying to be a politically correct here), whose features are similar to ours.

Anyways, I’ll be a bit lazy and not post how to do it, because I followed the instructions to this video to the letter, except for the colors. I just used what I had.

Of course, Miss Eldridge’s model’s eyes are much BIGGER than mine, so the effect would not be as pronounced, I think.

However, I will give a bit of detail about the foundation. Miss Eldridge used the Bourjois Healthy Mix foundation, which can be compared to Chanel’s Vitalumiere Aqa, according to various sources online. I do not have this product, so I mixed my moisturizer (one and a half pumps), a dewy finish foundation, and one that is matte in equal parts.

Sorry if I do look ghastly white. It’s the SPF in the foundations, I promise you. Again, I adapted the lips and cheeks to what products I have. I’ll list them all below.

Let’s Have Some Espresso!!! Review: Mac Espresso Eyeshadow

I am a coffee addict, and I embrace all things caffeine related except them colas. Kopi O Ice (Black Coffee with sugar and ice), check. Neslo (a mixture of Nescafe and Milo), check. Starbucks Caramel Macchiato (skinny, which is low fat milk and no cream), check!.

Kopi O Ice.

Neslo as Nestle packaged it. Seriously, the best ones are the ones that are mixed by hand. Bleh.

Starbucks Caramel Macchiato.

Of course, they are all coffee products, and so is this little baby down there! (Or not…)

All right, just because it has the name “Espresso” does not make it something that you can drink, but it does have a similar color heh heh.

It is the matte brown that we all need, and this darling is able to function as many things.

It works for the brows! (I’ve been using this almost every day for my brows for about 2 months already!)

It works as a soft, soft eyeliner.

Did you know that it can even work as eyeshadow?

Oh, and with the above picture, it works GREAT as a nose contour too! ^.^

On the brows, it lasts the whole day, while as an eyeshadow, about 14 hours max with primer (expect a little bit of creasing past the 12th hour if you have oily lids like me).

It is a beautiful brown to have, and I recommend you lovelies to march yourself to any makeup counter of your choice, and demand an eyeshadow either the color of your hair or one that is 3 shades darker than your skin.

Retails at RM 60. It is the most affordable among all high street brands discounting Inglot.

Pros: Multi-purpose, long-lasting, rather easily available.

Cons: A little pricey.

Add A Pop Of Color! (Or Rather, How To Tone Down Loud Colors!)

How do you wear bright colors if you’re afraid of them? Well, this was a question I’ve battled for many, many months now. I know that I sometimes wear my FOTDs out to Uni, but I always feel self-conscious about it, you know?

Personally, I’m not afraid of color on the lips, but on the eyes, well, that’s a different beast altogether.

Let’s take a bright pink for example. It’s a “dangerous” color to wear, as it may make the eye look like it’s swollen! You can use any color with this tip, too!

The trick is to wear the color only in a small amount, and at a strategic place, like the center of your eyelid.

To open up your eyes, apply a light shade about 3 shades darker than your skintone to highlight the inner corners of the eye, and to fade that color out, take a color three shades darker than your skin on the outer corner. It will make the bright color less visible.

See, when you open your eyes, you’ll only see a hint of color!

For the crease/socketline, you can use the same color that you used for the outer corner of the eye, or a darker color. If you do use the same color and want more depth, just layer the color a bit more.

Heh heh heh, seems really easy, right?

Another way to tone down a crazy eye look is to use a relatively neutral lipstick. Choose one that is similar to the color of your lips, and it need not necessarily be nude. My lips are really pigmented and nude lips just make me look dead. Instead, subtle pinks act as my “nude lips” heh heh.

Pop a little pink blush on the cheeks and you’re good to go!

Still In My Comfort Zone, But What The Heck! Let Me Be!!! Review: Clinique Rinse-Off Foaming Cleanser Mousse

If you read this blog, you’ll know that I’m deathly afraid to try new types of skincare. Yes, I do change up my cleansing oils/mousses/whathaveyou, but I was these off in the double cleanse routine. Ever since I tried Dermalogica’s sample kit, I literally broke out in cystic acne and that pre-teenhood incident left me scarred for life. So I’m hanging on to dear life where Clinique is concerned.

Once upon a time, this baby was only available in PWP sets, but since my trip to HK and Taiwan last year, I realized that it was all over the place. So, wanting a change from my Liquid Facial Soap, I got this when the latter ran out.

The cleanser has a strange texture, being about semi-solid when you squeeze it out of the tube, liquefying immediately with water, and foams when you massage it throughout your face.

Now, there is another function of this cleanser as well. It’s a makeup remover. Heh heh!

The SA at Clinique told me that it’s actually a makeup remover for travellers, and you really need to double cleanse with this, but I say meh. It is a huge waste of product, well, unless you use two small blobs instead of one big one, like I do. This product, when used properly (i.e: gently massage off whatever makeup you have on your face when washing your face), removes every single trace of makeup on.

If you do double cleanse with this, please please please do use two smaller blobs because this product is a little drying, yes, even on me.

Overall, I would say that this is a lovely cleanser/makeup remover! It does not break me out, but hey, if it did, I’d chuck it away the first time I used it!

Retails at RM 90 in Clinique Counters in Malaysia.

Pros: Dual-function, effectively removes EVERYTHING off your face. Rather affordable-ish.

Cons: Dries out the face a teensy bit.

Fruit Detox Diet Day IV: Mushrooms!!! Wait… What?

Yes, I know that mushrooms aren’t fruit. They’re fungi, but I did eat them over the course of the four days I’m in this #$%^&*()_)*&^%$@@!$%()_++_))(*^%$ detox diet.

Mama Daforcena bought lots of them for me and steamed them with a tiny bit of salt to eat for dinner/lunch when I’m super duper hungry and can’t bear the sight of fruits at all! (Which is only about… pfffft, once a day?)

Here are the mushrooms Mama bought for me^.^

Last but not least, Eryngii Mushrooms (AKA Abalone Mushroom):

So when you put all three of them together, you have:

Mushrooms are packed with goodness and vitamins, most importantly, they have little to no calories, so Mama Daforcena okay-ed it for consumption.

So, I don’t have a plat of steamed mushrooms for you lovelies, but I do have an FOTD for you!

Yes, I’m going to do off-whites and browns.

Yes, I’m not off my rocker, I know that they’re all (gasp) NEUTRALS, but I swear to you, it will only be neutral in color.

See?

Alright, first, you’ll want to lay down a shimmery base, and then take the lightest silver color you have, make it as close to white as possible and place it to the inner corner of the eye.

If it’s too light compared to the other colors that you have, just layer a little bit of a darker silver on the edges of where you’ve applied the first color.

Then, put on a medium brown eyeshadow on the center of the eye.

At the outer corner of the eye, take the darkest brown you have pat it to the shape you want. I wanted a cat eye, so I patted only a little bit, just to darken the edge.

Now, take a black color and shape the outer V.

Then, drag the color in the outer V into the socket line/crease. The black I used was too dense, so I blended the line out with some of the medium brown eyeshadow I used in the center of my lids. But, me being me, decided to add more drama by adding another layer of black heh heh heh. ^.^

Apply the medium brown on the lower lashline, line your eyes however you want, and then, put on your mascara!

Also, for this look, I heavily contoured my nose, just for the heck of it, by using the same brown eyeshadow at both sides of my nose, and blended it REALLY WELL.

I loved the red and pink lips sooo much from the previous FOTD that I decided to switch it up and use both colors in the same look!

What I did was to apply a bright fuchsia color to the center of my lips, followed by the red at the corners of the mouth to darken the color a little. To blend, just swipe the fuchsia lipstick over the whole lips again.

Contour the face, because you want color and not drama, and you’re done! ^.^

Fruit Detox Diet Day 3: Apples and Plums! (Plus 2 Lip Looks To Choose From!)

One more day!! (Which is today!) AAAAAHHHH!

I told Mama Daforcena that I want carbonara and curry mee tomorrow. I’m serious. I need spicy and creamy. RAWR!

Heh heh heh.

Well, let us not waste precious time.

Firstly, apply a pink-ish red color to the inner corner of your eyelid. This is because the apples I like to eat are Fuji Apples, which look like this:

This also explains the next color I’m using, which is a pure metallic gold used in the center of the eye. The apples are pinkish and yellowish, and are very sweet and crunchy. Heh heh!

Well, you guessed it, take a plum color for the outer corner of the eye and drag it into the socket line. If you like, you can deepen the color in the socket line with some deeper purples.

Apply the same gold color on the center of the lids to the lower lashline for a brightening effect. Seriously, after eating only fruits for 3 days, you’ll have energy crashed by now. Bleh.

Apply eyeliner and if you’re too lazy to put on mascara, just stick some falsies on!

Heh heh, we’re done for the eyes, now I’ll show you two lip looks you can choose for this look!

Before that, I’ll tell you what I did for my face. Basically, it was just a little contouring and some peachy-pink blush. Nothing you lovelies can’t handle!

Here’s the first look, which is a bright red, well, because apples are mainly bright red. To add some spice, I dabbed a little bright fuchsia to the center of my lips, just for the heck of it.

This second one is more subdued, a pink lip that goes with the color of Fuji apples in general ^.^

Fruit Detox Diet Day 2: Bananas and Nectarines (And A Little Experimentation Gone Wrong!! Ooops!)

Well, I’m already at the halfway mark! WOOHOOO!

Oh, for those of you who don’t know, nectarines are hybrids of peaches and plums and they look like this:

Put crudely, they’re more orangey in color, have no fuzz on them, and they have the, er, ~~butt crack,~~ sorry, cleft that peaches have.

As for bananas, we all know how they look like.

Alright, the first thing you’ll want to do is to lay down a white base so that the colors you’re using appear brighter, especially the yellow.

Now, place the yellow into the inner corner of the eye and blend well.

The next step is what I call the fail step. Seriously. Never in my 20 (going on 21) years of living have I ever seen that orange and violet = brown. I did NOT know that it was going to happen. I thought the color that I’d get was going to be some purple-veined orange or orange-veined purple. SOMEONE PLEASE SHOOT ME NOW!

Well, it does not look that bad, so instead of mimicking the color of the nectarine’s skin, I have a dusting of color on the outer corner of my eyes mimicking the color of the nectarine’s flesh.

Heh heh heh, that was a nice save, no?

The socket-line color is just a shimmery orange, because of the both nectarines and bananas carry orange tones with them (some bananas do, but not all!).

Complete the look by lining your eyes however you want and add lashings of mascara!

Since this look is so neutral (apart from the yellow), methinks you can do whatever with the cheeks and lips, so I’ll not do anything here!

Ushering In the New Year With Detox Diet! Yes, I’m Serious! FOTD: Day 1–Mango and Grapes!

Hello there lovelies! Yes, this is my first FOTD post of the year, heh heh!

Yes, the title is not a hoax at all. My aunt and mother got me into a all-fruit detox diet and I have to tough it out for four days! My mom, being the ever-caring mother brought me into our favorite fruit stand to stock up on fruits that I can eat, so we got bananas, grapes, apples, nectarines and plums! Yum!

So today, I ate 2 mangos and a few grapes. I also ate 3 bananas, but I forgot to add yellow into this look. Oh well, there are four days, so let’s get on with Day 1!

Take a matte orange color and apply it onto the inner half of your eyelid. Now, I know that many people will tell me that mangos are yellow, but I have to leave that color for the bananas, ok? Anyways, there are orange mangos, behold:

After you’ve done that, apply a purple color onto the outer half of the eye. The grapes that Mama Daforcena bought were a little reddish, so I chose this purple with a red vein.

Now, when you apply your eyeshadow with flat brush, you’ll use two sides for two colors, right? So when doing your lower lashline, just point the brush towards your lower lashline, so that both sides of the brush lies upwards and downwards. Sweep whatever remaining color onto your lower lashline. You should have a mix between the orange and the purple.

(Sorry for the wobbly eyeliner on my right eye, the lighting was HORRIBLE at home)

Take a darker purple and blend it right into the socket of your eye. For Caucasians, that’s your crease area, for Asians like me, that’s the part where you can literally feel the bone ends and your eyes are suspended between the edges of your eye sockets (I will elaborate more in another post).

I don’t know if you noticed this, but I did a double wing in this FOTD just for the heck of it heh heh! ^.^ It’s really easy to do, just do a normal winged/cat eye and add another one at the lower corner of your eyes! (Methinks it’s not really noticeable with the falsies on. heh heh.)

Line your eyes, put on falsies and you’re done!

I only contoured my face because I want my eyes and lips to stand out. On the lips is a matte dark pink/fuchsia to remind you of more grapes that are slightly pinky!

Seriously, I’m hungry. Bah.

Not The Kind That You Eat, But The Kind That Cleans Your Face! Review: Pond’s Pure White Cleansing Mousse.

Mousse is French for froth or lather. Mousse in culinary terms means this, usually.

However, the mousse I’m reviewing right now cannot be eaten. It’s used to wash your face, darlings.

This is the Pond’s Pure White Cleansing Mousse which I got in China, which was one of the two products I hauled back.

You use it like cleansing oil, on a dry face, pump some product out and massage off every trace of makeup on your face.

This is what you get when you pump it out! ^.^ Told you it was a mousse! Well, the term we use in plain English is self-foaming. Much better that way, innit?

Let’s see how it works! Introducing a failed FOTD:

After washing it all off:

This is not bad, I’d say. Since the test shot, I discovered that you must be generous with this product. About a golf ball-sized amount would be nice for the WHOLE FACE.

One word of caution though, if you’re gonna use a long-wearing black gel eyeliner on the waterline, suggest using other means to remove this. Seriously, using this product would sting your eyes. Lookit my right eye, it’s a little red at the corners, and the black still was not removed (it transferred from the upper lashline too!)

I did not experience any breakouts or side effects from using this product, which is a very, very good sign.

Pros: Cleanses rather well, fun to use, very affordable.

Cons: Not available in Malaysia, cannot remove stubborn eyeliners.

New Year’s Eve 2011 Foiled FOTD 3: It’s A Yellow Mellow Fellow! ^.^

We’re working with yellow tones today, as yellows have a mean reputation as being one of the hardest colors to wear on the eyes.

Heh heh, yes, it’s the same yellow that I used in the previous FOTD. ^.^ I loved it so much that I let it have the center stage this time! You can see that although I used it in the same place, which is the inner corner, it’s much more intense. That’s because I LAYERED it on! In real life, you can even see the red sparkles!

On the center of the eye, apply a yellow-based gold. Make it fade into the yellow so that they look like one funky color-changing color! ^.^

Once you get to the outer corner, lay on some dark, but still gold-ish pink in any shape you want. Line your lower lashline in this manner as well! ^.^

Now, for the tricky part, which is the crease. Take the most precise brush you have and pick up a sparkling navy color. What you’re going to do is to STICK THAT BRUSH INTO THAT CREASE. NOT THE EYE. NEVER THE EYE. This is to make sure that you have somewhat of a cut crease effect ^.^ Now, take a blending brush, pick more color up and blend out that line UPWARDS.

Highlight under you brows, blending down towards the navy to make sure that there’s no lines and edges.

Line your eyes, apply mascara, and you’re le done ^.^

Now, for the lips and face.

Since the colors are rather, er, tamed, I decided that I have chance to play up my cheeks as well! Pink cheeks yo! ^.^

My lips are also pink, just that they’re in a matte color that’s almost the same as my lips. Seriously, I never, ever thought that I could wear blue-based pinks at all! (Methinks now that my skin has a neutral undertone, so I can wear whatever I want)

So that’s the look! I hope you guys have a smashing year ahead! ^.^ Keep staying healthy and keep trudging on no matter what tries to bring you down! ^.^

New Year’s Eve 2011 Foiled FOTD 2: Greens (Also, A Matte Alternative!)

Hello there beautiful people! ^.^

Here’s the second (and third) FOTD I came up for this New Year’s Eve! ^.^

It was quite the little fiasco, but I think it deserves to be up here because of all the work I put into it!

First of all, take a YELLOW (yes, Yellow) pigment or loose eyeshadow, wet the brush and apply it to the inner corner of your eyes. If you like, you can extend it to anywhere on the eye you want.

Then, take a blue and apply it to the center of the eye with the same method.

Now, the tricky part. Take a green color and place it on the outer corner of the eye. Wing it out slightly and pull the color into the crease. Yes, the green is going to envelope the other colors, MUAHAHAHAHA~

If you don’t want a shimmery crease, then just go over it with a matte, but similar-colored green.

Line your eyes and make a cat-eye shape that goes as far as you’ve winged out the green color.

For the lower lashline, take the same green color you used for the outer corner of your eye and line away. I lined my waterline with the same black gel liner I used for my upper lashline.

Put on mascara and you’re done for the eyes!

Since this look was so crazily green, I decided to up the ante by adding a (gasp) peach blush to the apples of my cheeks. The lips I kept neutral with a pink that blends almost into the color of my lips ^.^

Heh heh heh, if you like the concept of bright greens, but are too afraid to use foiled pigments, here’s a matte one for you to try!

Instead of yellow, I used a white in the corner of the eyes and moved the yellow into the middle, omitting the blue.

Also, the green used in the crease in the version above, is now moved to the outer corner of the eye.

The same green was used to line the lower lashline.

There was NO additional color on the crease, just all of the 3 colors blended out and faded out.

Followed by a more subdued cat-eye. ^.^

I only contoured the face, and the lips, heh heh. I did something special.

Using a rather pigmented and sparkly lipgloss, I added a bit more color and sparkle by rubbing a little bit of Mac’s Pink Pearl pigment.

So that’s it for the more “subdued” version. See ya next time!

Review: Put Your Best Face Forward With Sleek’s Contour Kit!

One of the perks of being Chinese is that you have a round face alike that of a fishball. Then, your culture demands to be known as beautiful, you need to have a face shaped like a sunflower seed, or “kuaci face” (瓜子脸).

Seriously, Chinese men/women know not how to count their own blessings that they do have a face that’s not disfigured, or are utterly cruel to impose impossible images on others in order to be accepted as “beautiful”.

Well, I have a round, fishball-like face. Thus I decided to give this a try. It’s a contour kit by Sleek Cosmetics all the way from the UK!

It comes with a dark shade and a highlighter.

In fact, the dark shade looks so dark that it seemed impossible for me to wear at all. However, with my current stash of bronzers, I discovered that some are too light for me (Glares at the Red Earth and Tarte ones). I picked this out in Medium to see if it did work for me.

As you can see, the dark shade is almost a brown, and the highlighter mixed with the dark shade can look almost like a fair person’s bronzer!

Well, lo and behold, it works! ^.^

The right side of my face is so visibly “lifted” after using it below my cheekbones and on my forehead. The highlighter goes on your cheekbones, the area a little above your brows and the bridge of your nose. If you’re feeling particularly adventurous, you can contour the sides of your nose with the dark shade as well!

If you do use this product, please take the time to blend out the edges because the color is a little dark. You don’t want to go out looking like having wedges of brown on your face dahlings!

Now I can have a kuaci face too! (Wishful thinking, ladies, wishful thinking).

I wore this during my China trip, and let me tell you this, it lasts a long time, because I can see trace hints of it even when I’m taking off my makeup at the end of the night. TRACE hints mind you, and I was in freezing weather, so I’d give it 4-6 hours in a tropical setting.

Oh, all right, I admit it, I wanted this thing after watching TONS of Pixiwoo videos.

Pros: Long lasting, actually sculpts the face, affordable

Cons: Needs thorough blending, not available in local market.

New Year’s Eve 2011 Foiled FOTD 1: Liquid Purples (With 3 Lip Looks to Choose From)!

Yes, I do have a thing for sparkly purple looks. Heh heh heh. However, this FOTD is something different, because it’s well, created with foiled pigments! (In plain speech: pigments used wet).

You’ll need any loose pigment (or mineral eyeshadow) of your choice and a darker color for the crease. Make sure that you wet only the brush and pour a little pigment onto the cap of the product. If the color is too dilute, add more pigment, as you can’t decrease the amount of water.

For this look, I took a pink-purple color and applied it to the inner half of my lid. Why the inner half although I’m using 3 colors for the lid, well, anything out of the inner 1/3 of the lid is for blending. ^.^

This is then followed by a true violet color on the center of the lids. Once you’ve done that, continue with the outer 1/3 of the lid in a bright blue color. For this look, I decided to drag the color down a bit to give my eyes a more rounded shape instead of moving it upwards for a cat-eye effect.

Using a little more of the blue for the outer 1/3 of the lid, I lined my lower lashline and a little bit of the water line.

Now, for this look, any old brown in the crease would make the whole eye look less bright, so I opted for a sparkly black in the crease. Tap your smoke brush/crease brush/whateverhaveyou-brush onto the part of your eyelids that are directly below the tail of your eyebrows, swirl it around a little, and pull the brush inwards. You’ll need to darken the color if it’s not as intense for you, but mine’s alright the first go.

Line your eyes, top with mascara however you like, or you could even add false lashes if you want. Oh, and do remember to highlight under your brow to make yourself look awake (good when you’re out partying!)

Now you’re done for the eyes!

I have a surprise for you lovelies. In this FOTD, I’ll give you 3 kinds of lip colors to choose from. A nude, a fuchsia and a red.

Here’s the nude. I don’t have a nude lipstick (nor will I bother to get one), so I applied a thin layer of my Stage concealer over my lips followed by a pink lipgloss that’s almost translucent. Frankly, I don’t dig this look. Also, I did NOTHING to my cheeks here to let the eyes take center stage. In fact, I feel as if my whole face went flat although the eyes stood out.

This is the fuchsia one. I contoured my face and put on a matte fuchsia lipstick with some reddish pink lipgloss at the center of my lips for some dimension.

Last but not least, the look with red lips. I lined my lips with red lipliner and topped them with a dark, but bright red ^.^ Vampy, but in a way that Prince would enjoy, I’d say! ^.^

I’ve Got Mah Own Set O’ Neutrals And They’re Sure Ain’t Naked!

I have a on and off lemming with the Naked Palette from Urban Decay (and also Naked 2 has been launched outside of Malaysia too).

The problem for me is that whenever I see them Naked Palettes, I start to think: brown, beige, taupe, then move to their undertones in which they differ. However, when I get my butt over to Sephora stores either in KLCC or Starhill, what I think is: HALLELUJAH, THEY’RE IN STOCK, followed by: brown, brown and brown? WHY LA LIEDAT?? (Translated to: Why is it like that?)

That’s why I went on a search high and low eyeshadows from other cosmetic brands that would suit my needs better than 12 shades of brown. I knew that it was going to cost me more comparatively, but it would be a palette that I would go to over and over again.

So when Sukie came over, I decided to get myself an Inglot palette, as Inglot’s eyeshadows are cheaper than say, Mac, Bobbi Brown and Make Up For Ever, costing about RM 30 per color in their Freedom System Range.

These are the colors that I got, and they belong to a 4 pan palette. Yes, it means that the next time I get eyeshadows from Inglot, I have to buy 4 at a time.

They look pretty matte without flash, but only the brown is matte. You’ll see in the picture below.

See? Aren’t they lovely?

Here are swatches of them colors on my arm, and you can see that they’re really pigmented heh heh.

The gold is 403, the highlight is Pearl 395, the brown is Matte 363 and the silver is Pearl 448.

I did a quick and easy look with all four colors, and I discovered a tiny, tiny flaw with them colors for me. They don’t really stand out when blended or used over other colors for some reason. This means that you have to pack on more color for the opacity that you want. But I’m all right with that, as I’m not looking for a punch of color with these babies at all.

I wore only these eyeshadows all throughout my trip in China to test them out. With primer, they lasted for about 10 hours before creasing, and I consider it great in the realms of lasting power, seriously.

Also, the colors I chose are multi-functional. That matte brown shade can be used as a brow color for me, as well as a contour color for the nose! ^.^ Meanwhile, the gold can be used as a highlighter with a golden sheen with a light hand.

Retails at Inglot, Sunway Pyramid for RM 30 per color. 4 colors and the 4 pan-palette costs RM 148, meaning the palette itself costs RM 28.

Pros: Pigmented at first swatch, great lasting power, relatively affordable.

Cons: Loses pigmentation when layered.

Yes my dears, I’m getting better from my flu, but it doesn’t mean that I’m free at all. Summer School has started and I’ve barely gotten any work done! Ciao!

Well, what she helped me to get. Hahhah! Except for the Inglot, we got those here.

Here’s the lovely lady herself! We bonded over drinks. Chatime, and Sno, which was some weird kooky drink where you mix ice cream or yoghurt with toppings and such.

Well, you have to try it for yourself to discover if you really like it. One word of advice though, don’t go for the fro-yo. It’s real sour, and not in the good way.

A Test Run FOTD to Preview What Is To Come!

Ever since my house got repainted, I’ve been bunking at me grandma’s house. While, me uncle, aunt and cousins are now in China for their annual China trip, so I’m staying there with me mom and bro until it’s OUR turn to join them in China later this month (will blog about this after the trip).

Throughout these few weeks, I’ve been zipping in and out with my aunt (the wife of my uncle), and well, I’ve gotten a few things. Some are necessary, some are not. I’ll tell you the stories of those items one by one. You’ve already seen one!

Some of them are even purchased before my exam period, but I haven’t had the chance to review them properly.

It’s Not A Jumbo-sized Eye Primer… It’s Urban Decay’s Complexion Primer Potion (Pore Perfecting) !

Seriously, this really looked like a HUGE bottle of UDPP for me when I first saw it, but no, it is no such thing. This baby, the UDCPP, is actually a primer pour le visage (for the face, er, am I right?) It comes in 2 kinds, one is a pore perfecting one for oily skin and the other is a brightening one for normal-dry skin.

Here is the list of ingredients. Do note that this has dimethicone in it, and if you’re allergic to silicones, do make sure you test it out first.

This is a swatch of two drops of the products. Forgive how… er… misleading they look, it’s really the primer, I promise!

Now, you’ll definitely need more than those two drops to cover your entire face. I think about 3cm of product (thinly squeezed out) is sufficient.

(Usually, I’d post pictures of me sans and with primer, but my lousy Samsung NX 100 won’t capture squat without kicking up a fuss, so I gave up.)

The UDCPP works like a charm to me, really. It really does control the oilies, and make your makeup last. However, it seems to me that it only shines when used UNDER foundation. If I just slap this on, followed by my Mac Blot, it only had minimal pore-perfecting capabilities. But I’m just nitpicking, it really does control all your facial oil throughout the day.

Oh, and another thing about this. You know that when you apply blush without foundation on, it hardly lasts? This baby made my blush last for at least 4 hours with only my Mac Blot on! Am serious!

I’ve had it for about 3 weeks now and it sure works wonders for me!

So what primers have you discovered lately? Any good ones? I may try Shu Uemura’s makeup base next, teehee!

You Can’t Be Serious? A Remote Control Holder? Really?

Yes I am, you can use a remote control holder to store your makeup, especially them cylindrical ones.

I got this from Daiso, and is a remote control holder/organizer.

Very, very frankly, it does the job.

No it cannot fit the bolster in the top part of the picture, but you get the idea.

I put all my powdered stuff i.e. blushes and single eyeshadows into the largest compartment. Well, honestly, the single eyeshadows go on top of the blushes. It’s not really organized that way, but it sort of works.

The second largest compartment is used to store my lippies that I don’t take with me. I store them label up so I know what color they are.

The two square compartments hold my eye stuff and brushes (except my Sigma Flat Top Kabuki and my Tapered Face Brush). Eyeliners, mascara, brow pencils, primers, you want it you have it. I also have a hairstick, tweezers, scissors in there. Oh, and my blackhead/whitehead extractor.

Heehee, didn’t know that something so handy could only cost RM 5, yes? It’s available at all Daiso outlets.

Pros: Compartments for easy organization, holds a LOT of stuff.

Cons: Could be bigger, almost no color selection (Comes in grey or blue).

Sexy Means Full and Curvy, Ya Hear? Review: Rimmel Sexy Curves Full Figure Mascara

Ohkay, I’m not ScarJo or Beyoncé (I like to call her Jay-Z 嫂, which means Jay-Z’s wife), but hey, I have a curvy figure which was an hourglass shape too! Just that it’s TECHNICALLY hourglass shaped by means of proportion heeeheee.

However, the curvy girl that I’m going to show you is not me, no, not at all, it’s the girl below!

Lookit her, the Rimmel Sexy Curves Full Figure mascara, trying to imitate Scarjo in that red outfit. Heehee!

I believe that this is the new variant. The original Sexy Curves mascara comes in a purple tube, methinks.

The brush is of the three-ball variety, which somehow acts to provide greater volume, making your lashes look fuller.

We shall see how it works.

Well, as you can see from the comparison between my right eye which has the mascara on (one coat) and my left eye which does not, I can pretty much say that it works to give volume and a little bit of length with a teensy bit of curl.

Two coats on the right eye, and the lashes are looking pretty long and curly now! Not to mention a little bit fatter!

Three coats on both eyes, and a rather thick coat on the lower lashes.

You can tell that I’m really liking this, don’t you? Three coats on and I already look like I have falsies on! This calls for a round of applause! Also, it stays on until you get it off without a hint of smudging! This is real good stuff, no?

However, I do have something that I don’t really like about this. The brush is too big. I prefer something a little smaller, which lessens the chance of smudging the mascara on your eyelid. But the mess is easily handled by using a cotton swab to clean it off.

Retails at RM 33-35 at all Malaysian drugstores carrying Rimmel products.

Pros: All-rounded, long wearing, affordable.

Cons: Brush/want too big.

To Celebrate the Valiant Souls, To Remember the Pain of War… Er, This is Hanny’s MW3 FOTD! ^.^ (Also, a non-Gamer Girl’s Review of the Single Player Campaign)

It’s not Hans Zimmer, but it’s good!

Methinks I have already established meself a girl who plays Modern Warfare. This is completely different as to being a gamer girl. Really. I’ve just finished Modern Warfare 3’s Single Player campaign, and I’ve only done it in recruit mode, dying about, say, 3-4 times per level MINUMUM.

So, what do I think about the game?

Two words, dear readers, two words:

BLOODY (or whatever expletive you prefer)

AWESOME.

Of course, it would not be Modern Warfare without the necessary high-octane plot filled with explosions, plot twists, and even more bangs and booms.

Well, without giving too much away, you first find yourself fighting in New York City, which has crumbled into pieces with enemy fire (from the invasion you saw in the previous game, Modern Warfare 2), and you end in a hotel that looks similarly to the Burj Dubai where you ultimately kick the bad guy’s ass.

Now, through this time, you handle one mission after the other, and it’s all happy and when you least expect it (i.e.: when you’re near to the end of the level, something BAD happens). Also, this is the installment where almost ALL the characters introduced in the franchise dies.

Yes, even this guy. Remember him?

and this guy, sadly. (Frankly, I find this shot the best ones for Makarov out of the concept art, but seriously, you HAVE to hear his voice to know why I’m so crazy over him!)

(If you scream SPOILER at me for any reason, it is not technically a spoiler because it’s been a week since the game came out and the whole world already knows how the game ended so there)

As for the guns, there’s some new ones, if I’m not mistaken. The best one would be the ACR with Hybrid Sight. Seriously. I usually don’t wear my contacts/spectacles around the house, so sitting in some distance before the screen and being generally short sighted, the hybrid sight helps.

You also get to play with a new faction, which is Delta Force. (You can find info from the real world here). They’re American elites, and have worked with our boys from the 141 before. Please read below for my single rant regarding the plot:

There is only one thing that I want to say about this game, one negative that I must pronounce, so to speak.

BLOODY HELL WHY DID THE DEVELOPER JUST PUT THAT PIECE OF INFORMATION AS CANON? DO THEY NOT REALIZE THAT IT JUST MESSED UP THE ENTIRE PLOTLINE? NOW I HAVE TO WRITE ALL MY FANFICS ALL OVER AGAIN!

(Gets calmed down by Soap’s ghost with a hug)

So, let’s get on with the FOTD, based once again on the logo of the game, as was in Modern Warfare 2.

I can see white, yellow, green and a little bit of black/brown from the picture, so that’s what I used.

First, apply a base color all over your eyelid. I went for a greyish one, because well, I thought of the colors of the gun so yeah. What I did was to layer a shimmering white eyeshadow all over a thin layer of black eyeliner.

Next, I applied a stark yellow to the inner corners of my eye. This corresponds to the lighter, yellowish-white edges of the letters in the logo.

The center of the lids is a light green that has a metallic finish to it. Blend the green slightly into the yellow. Overlap with more yellow if the color looks too faded.

Apply a matte, bright green to the outer part of the eyelids. Make sure all the colors blend seamlessly.

Now, mix a lighter matte green and a medium brown and apply then onto the crease in circular motions from the outside of the eye to the inside. Repeat if necessary.

Use the same mixture of colors to smudge the lower lashline as well.

Now, take any color similar to your skintone and apply it into the inner corners of your eye and the tops of your browbone to open up your eyes.

Line your eyes however you wish, add mascara, and you’re done!

Since the look leans towards cool and it is a military-based look, I stuck with almost unseen pink blush and a neutral, but gold-ish lips. For that pinkish gold sheen, just add Mac’s Rose pigment onto your lips ever so gently.

Now, you have the Modern Warfare 3 FOTD to last you a year until the next Call of Duty comes out. Chances are, I’m NOT excited for it. heeheee Enjoy!

This does not look like much, but it’s actually quite the stunner. It’s a lip-marker, reminiscent of them Revlon Just Bitten lipstains and the Covergirl Outlast ones, albeit that it does not come with a lip balm that the Revlon lipstains have.

Well, to apply, you just need to draw it on and fill it in as you would lipstick/lipgloss. However, do be careful when filling it in from your own lipline, because the tip is rather thick. Also, you’ll have to be quick if you want to blend it in. This thing dries fast, and stays on long!

It does not look as red in natural daylight, but a little My Lips, But Better, so to speak. The perfect accessory for this look would be them oversized sunglasses! Let’s you feel your inner diva, no?

Also, it makes a girl in jammies so happy that she’ll even look good in her jammies! (Well, that is a rather subjective statement, heehee)

On the lips it lasts a good 4-5 hours, but I must warn you that it fades from the inside like the one from Smashbox according to ParisB! You’ll just have to be really careful when you have this on (i.e: check in the mirror a touch more often).

I really do like it, and it’s my first lip-marker lipstain ever! You can get it at Makeupgeek.com’s Store at USD 5.89, which is less than RM 20, shipping included.

(Oh, and my summer holidays are officially here! WOOHOOO! Time to sleep all I want, and play Modern Warfare 3 when I wake up!)

Pros: Long-lasting color, easy to apply.

Cons: The tip of the marker is a little thick, fades from the inside of your lip.

It’s a Zoo in Here! Hanny’s Accessory Audit! Bangles, Rings & My New Pendant!

Everyone has their own “thing” when it comes to personal style. Me, I like animal themes. I’ve a leopard print dress and a leopard print scarf, am venturing into zebra/snake motifs. heehee.

One or two items in the wardrobe does not count for much, but in terms of accessories, heehee, Hanny has quite the zoo! Don’t believe me, just look at them pics below!

Oh, and all of them have names, except for the stainless steel bracelet. You’d have to be as crazy as I am to give your bling names! Most of them have Harry Potter names, and the ones that don’t usually don’t really hit the bill for Harry Potter animals they remotely resemble.

Let’s start with Hedwig (Harry Potter’s owl)! She’s my owl-motif bangle Mama Daforcena got for me in her and Papa Daforcena’s recent trip to Bangkok (BKK). Can you see the detail on that beauty? She’s chrome-plated, so I couldn’t use the flash to take this photo because you won’t be able to see her lovely feathers!

Poor poor Nagini (Voldemort’s snake) has lost a few rhinestones, the poor dear! She was my first animal-ish piece of bling, so yeah. I’ve had her for a long while and I love her to bits. Them beady eyes make her so lifelike! I got her in a stall in Midvalley Megamall for RM 20. I once saw this in a Vincci outlet once, but they sold it at RM 80.

Meet Tigger! I decided I couldn’t name this guy Crookshanks (Hermione’s cat) because he’s too fierce with those sapphire eyes. Tigger’s a tentative name, too. I just don’t know what to call him! I’m open to suggestions though!.

Got Tigger at Forever 21. Funny thing was, I almost got his brother for the full price at RM 65. My friends, well, they had to tie me to a chair to stop me from buying it. Thanks to my friends, I managed to wait until a 70% promotion (which sucked mostly because you can’t get the nicer clothes on discount) and bought him at RM 25. I’ve just been to Forever 21 @ Sunway Pyramid, and his bros are still RM 25. Better snap them up before the sales period ends!

Just look how SHINY he is! He sparkles as if he was made of real canary diamonds!

Mama Daforcena got this for me in BKK too! It’s stainless steel so it won’t tarnish quickly through daily wear. It’s a nice change to wear something so demure, no? The round thingies are actually 4 (two on each side) white stones (IDK what they are, but I remember that they’re NOT rhinestones for sure) alternating with an embossed pattern resembling a screw.

On my pinky, we have Mosang Bro! Malaysian Hokkiens call foxes “Mo-sang”, which is actually the transliteration of the Malay word “Musang”, which is a fox-like creature. Bro, well, you geddit right?

This one was a gift from my aunt who runs an accessory shop (yes, I’m the luckiest girl in the world!), and is a fox whose coat is actually made of white, pink and purple rhinestones. Ain’t he cute? I love the tail! heehee

On my ring-finger is Pidwidgeon (Ron’s owl). It didn’t have a name, but in the Pottermore craze, I’d tweeted that if I got my Beta Invitation, I’d give my bling Harry Potter names, and now it applies to all of them. He only fits on my ring finger, and has one heck of a gaze.

Next to Pidwidgeon is Pidwidgeon II. Why “II”? Simple, I thought I’d lost Pidwidgeon and named him thus. He opens up because he’s a locket ring, but I don’t know how to get a picture in for the life of me.

The one on my index finger is called Blackus Galacticus. I got it from Diva at RM 23. My friend handed it to me and told me that it was “soooo me” after our A Levels farewell dinner. I had to agree with her. It’s black and shiny. I love!

The eagle on my ring finger as yet to have a name… Wait, I’ll call it Fawkes (Dumbledore’s phoenix, closest I can get a phoenix is an eagle)!

Mama Daforcena got it for me at BKK too. Like Hedwig, Fawkes is chrome-plated. When I lift my finger upright, his shape looks rather much like Aragorn’s crown from Return of the King:

Maybe it’s the wings. Heehee

On my index finger we have my Peacock-feather motif ring. I don’t know what to call it, really. It is in a rather classical shape for rings, reminds me of the rings that grace the fingers of monarchs of times past. You can’t really see it from the picture, but the plastic top is cut like a stone. Heehee.

The Chinese dragon on my index finger is Salazar (Founder of Slytherin, hence name given to a serpentine creature), that’s because well, Nagini’s taken as a name. If you look closely enough, you can see the little faux-pearl in his mouth! I got him at Chameleon @ KLCC for RM 17-ish.

Oh, and last, but not least, my elephant-pendant, Lakshmi!

This baby is a real piece of jewelry. She’s white gold, with two rubies. Yes, RUBIES. See how dark the red is? If the red is not dark enough, it most probably is garnet, which is a crystal, and not a stone. So, beware. Also a gift from Mama Daforcena from BKK. I'm NEVER gonna take her off, I swear.

(Oh, my necklace is also white gold, and so are my earrings. I wear white gold because I’m scared that I’m allergic to some metals like Mama Daforcena is. The necklace is white gold because costume jewelry tend to stain, and well, I’m too lazy to change it up every day. I hardly change my earrings too.)

Lookit All These Lovely Ladies? Where Can You Find Them All In One Place? The #MWSAwards, Of Course!

Today was the greatest day of my blogging life. Why? I got to meet so many people I’ve only seen online, especially my fellow bloggers and readers of ParisB’s blog. heehee!

It all started when dear, dear PB came up with this post, stating that there would be an Awards Party. I immediately signed up with the party knowing full well I was supposed to be studying for my finals!

The details of the party are as below:

Notice the dress code? Heehee. Almost all of us went with red lips! I almost went with my dear fuchsia one, but, HAIH, I decided to stick with red, which was my Three Wolf Moon from Shiro Cosmetics.

As red lips were the focus, my eyes and face makeup were rather simple. just eyeliner, mascara and a little bit of contouring and bronzer/highlighter mix on the cheeks. (I applied the lipstick in the car because I was yet to have my breakfast when I took this photo). I call this look: “Impress Mama Daforcena By Going Minimal”. Feh. Yeah right! That’s 3 layers of mascara and three kinds of mascara on the bottom lashes (ahem, 1 layer per bottle, duh! heehee)

Thanks to PB’s direction, I was able to find the venue! Gosh, who would’ve known that there would be a café in a HTC outlet? (Psst, to be honest, I was tempted by the products we discussed AND the phones!)

We all signed this, er… huge card (please tell me what you call this!) after registering. Can you see mine? It be quite easy to find with the lil rabbit-ish thingy!

Oh, and of course, the main event when the results of the awards were being announced. Some of my guesses were COMPLETELY OFF. Boohoo!

Seriously, I never, ever thought this day would come when I could meet all of them IN THE FLESH. This Daforcena was seriously star-struck when I first went through the doors. The thought that: OMG, those beautiful women whose pictures that I see online are actually MOVING literally crossed my mind! Ain’t kidding my dears, ain’t kidding at all.

Also, due to our, ahem, common interests, there were no awkward silences at all! Yay! It was just like a gathering of friends long separated!

The funniest thing was that all of us looked out the door to see who was actually who. It was until we knew each other’s online monikers that we went: OH! So you’re (insert online moniker)!!!! Nice to finally meet you!

All in all, it was an afternoon of great company, and was worth the nights of studying till late night for my finals just so I could come to the party. (Don’t worry, I’m not behind in my revision, I timed things just right, k?)

I really, really hope that there’s another chance to meet all of you again, especially those who couldn’t make it here. I can personally name two, you know who you are teehee! (PLEASE DO VISIT SOMETIME AFTER 11/11/11!!!)

Oh yes, I almost forgot, the goodie bag!

No, no, PB didn’t get us all Louis Vuitton paper bags (them goody bags REALLY looked like LV paper bags, just mini-sized and without the LV name!) and slapped her logo on it (I slapped on my name tag though). But it’s what inside that counts, no?

I kept some for myself and gave some to my grandma and aunts. I’ll review the ones that I used in due time. Yes, I’m venturing out to a few new cleansers, aren’t y’all proud of me?

Happy Deepavali!! And an FOTD from My Model and I!

Yes, yes, I am now a famed beauty blogger, and I have acquired myself a model! She’s a total diva, and demands to have her requisite Mamee Monster (baked noodle snacks) and seaweed snacks during makeup time too. Haih. What can I do? I’m using her face and her mother’s camera…

Everybody, meet Ooi Mei Mei! My youngest cousin on my mother’s side!

Ain’t she the cutest angel? She has curly hair just like Mama Daforcena and I too!

Anyways, we’ll move to Deepavali now.

Deepavali is known as the Festival of Lights, and is an Indian holiday celebrated by all Indians. You can find more about it here. In Malaysia, Deepavali is celebrated in grandeur alike that of Eid and Chinese New Year Malls, schools, offices are decorated with oil-lanterns and also kolams, which are pictures drawn with colored rice.

Today, my model will show you how I would do a Deepavali FOTD, which predominantly uses purple and a slight beige-gold. Heehee!

First, apply a purple base color all over the eyelid, right till the crease. Make sure that you blend out the edges.

Once you’ve done that, layer a shimmery light gold/beige/cream over the purple base. This will give the look a golden sheen. Don’t worry, just pack it on.

Next, you want to apply a powdered purple eyeshadow over it. This will make it look like a royal purple sari (saree) with golden embroidery.

Darken the outer corner with a little black eyeshadow on the outer v, and smudge the lashlines as well.

Smudge the lower lashline with a dark pencil of your choice. I chose a soft black kohl (because our Grandma will SCREAM at me because it’s so late already and I had to get it off ASAP) and blended it with the same purple powdered eyeshadow.

Apply mascara to your lashes, both upper and lower, and you’re done for the eyes!

Since she’s such a small girl, I used only a hint of blush and a lipgloss. Luckily, Grandma said that she looks pretty!

Yes, kiddies, if you want to play dress-up with your older cousins, this is the look to go for!

Happy Deepavali from the both of us. We’re taking the whole day to go out, just me, Ooi Mei Mei and her mom!

Well, today is officially the last day of my First Year in University, heehee, so I thought I’d post something to commemorate this event. heehee

Yes, I live with my parents. Uni is just 20 minutes away from home (30-60 minutes if there’s a traffic jam).

But you know what, all these things don’t matter because of the great people that you meet INSIDE that Uni.

Frankly, I’ve been wanting to go into the course I’m currently pursuing ever since I was a kid, am not joking at ALL. I’ve looked over plenty of courses growing up, but none of them ever interested me. ^.^

Since I had many friends from my area going to that place, I reckoned that it would not be a different experience at all. Well, I was wrong.

You see, back in high school, I suffered from a slight case of low self esteem. Everyone was smarter/prettier/had more friends than I did, so I decided to make an identity for myself, rather than wait for anyone to bestow it upon me. I called it Happy Goth, which means to me that someone is happy all the time, and well, likes the darker edge in life. Let’s just say that it did not turn out well then.

In college, I did meet some fabulous people indeed, but my closer friends all changed courses and now they’re overseas. Other classmates had already formed their cliques, and it didn’t feel right, you know? I love them, yes, but, there’s no, er, depth to it, to a certain extent.

So, the time to climb the ivory tower came, and BOOM.

I met this cute buncha rascals.

I’m not gonna lie at all. There are ups and downs to every friendship, but, I’m very, very, very, happy to know all of them.

They are the first people, in a long long time, who actually made me feel like I belong. That I don’t have to be what others are to be their friend, but myself and no one else. Even Mama Daforcena constantly tried to drill into my head that I would scare off everyone with my animal-themed accessories, cat-eye liner and (apparently bad) dress sense, but nope, they all stuck to me like glue.

So guys, girls, this is for all of you, in my own way. heehee~

Of course, the colors I’ll be using are blue and white, but I’m going to show you how different color nuances can be used in one single look.

First, you sweep a white base on your eyelid. I made a brush wet and used a shimmery one, applying it underneath the crease. After that, a whitish silver went into the inner corners of my eye.

Next, comes a matte, true blue at the middle part of my lid. I layered a bit more of the white-silver at the inner edges of the matte blue to blend it in so that there’s no visible line.

A darker blue (any finish you want) was applied to the outer corners in a < shape, the excess color was dragged into the crease.

Apply the white-silver on the inner corners of the lower lashline and blend it with the darker blue on the outer corner. Make sure the colors meet and the outer corner of the eye.

Using a color that’s similar to your skin’s color, highlight underneath the brow and blend out the edges above your crease. Line the upper and lower waterlines, and add on your favorite mascara.

The face and lips are rather easy. I just contoured my face and applied a pink lipstick, since the eyes are so dramatic, heehee.

So, that’s all I have for all of you. It’s exam time now, and I literally feel like dying right now. Bleh.

Hmmmm. This works, kinda. Quick Review: Etude House Oh m’Eye Lash Double Up Long Lash

A few weeks ago, I was in URGENT need of a mascara, and needed to replace my Maybelline Pulse Perfection mascara.

In need of a cheap replacement for the time being (I had to budget for certain… objects), I headed to Etude House for a quick, cheap fix.

This looks like its not much, but it works in a pinch, heehee.

Let me show you.

This is a picture of my lashes bare, under the brightest natural light I could find.

My lashes after 2-3 coats. It is not the best in volume, but it does deliver in terms of length. The small brush head also allows for application on the lower lashes too!

Not bad in my books. If you are on a tight budget, you can consider this. Not bad indeed.

Pros: Lengthens as promised, works on lower lashes.

Cons: Does not offer volume.

Ah, it’s been a long, long time since I’ve done an FOTD.

This look uses 3 blue shades, applied vertically one after another. I don’t know, but I can’t help but feeling there were more and more looks like that on YouTube, so I decided to make one for the blog, heehee.

The first color you need is a light, shimmery blue in the inner corner of your eyelid. This will open up your eyes and make them look bigger by reflecting more light.

The second is a medium blue with no undertones, of any finish. Pat it onto the center of the eyelid.

The third is a darker blue than the second one. I chose a navy blue with a little bit of purple undertone.

Now, the trick here is to blend your eyeshadow vertically as well. You’ll need any kind of flat brush like this:

Use one side of the brush to apply the color and the other to blend where two colors meet. You can use only one side to apply because the colors come from the same family, and will not disturb how it turns up on the lid.

Now, blend out the edges with a color that matches your skintone. I chose a shimmer finish because the middle and outer colors I used were matte.

Finish the look with mascara and blue eyeliner on the waterlines. I didn’t liner the upper lashline because I didn’t want to disturb the eyeshadow. ^.^

Since we’re doing blues, I used some cool colors for the rest of the face. The cheeks were a pink with very little peach tones, and my No 2. Fave pink lippie, the Dior Addict in Diorkiss.

Matching the color temperature ties the look together, no?

Now, I’ll show you something that disappointed me, really.

I got this a week ago, and have been trying to wear it ever since. This is the famous Ardell Demi Wispies used by almost everyone on Youtube. It’s made out of 100% human hair, and is touted to be among the best pair of false lashes on the market.

Bleh.

The problem I have with it is the band itself. It’s so freakin’ filmsy that it goes all over the place, making application super hard.

See, you can’t make them go on straight. Which is a major BUMMER, particularly if it gives you flirty, flirty lashes for that va va VOOM look.

See what I mean?

This does not mean that I will not try other lashes from Ardell. I’m just let down by the fact that the band is too soft for me to handle. Oh well, back to Daiso falsies for me, then!

Retails at US Drugstores or websites like Makeupgeek.com for around USD 4-6 and RM 22.90 per pair in Malaysian Sephora outlets.

Pros: Natural-looking, flattering even on short, non-existent lashes

Cons: Band is too soft and flimsy. Bleh.

Finally, I’ve Found It!!! Review: MAC Sheen Supreme Lipstick in Insanely It

Let’s face it, I’ve searched the entire market for THE fuchsia lipstick, seriously, and nothing, repeat, nothing ever cuts it. Deep pinks layered over gloss? Too much hassle. Cheaper alternatives? I’m wasting moolah searching for them…

Until one day when I skimped and saved and bullied Mama Daforcena into making me lunch every two school days that I take to Uni in a Thermos lunchbox (eh, she has to cook for the brother, too, so yeah heehee, thanks Mama Daforcena!! Love you!). I was finally able to afford this baby:

Yep, it’s my second Mac Lippie and I love it to death!

It’s called Insane It, as you can see, and it comes in a long tube, not like the regular Mac lipsticks you always see.

Just LOOK at that color! It’s pink, it’s purple, it’s what I’ve been searching for after going through various pink phases!

A slight dupe would be Revlon Superlustrous in Pink Velvet. That one is more muted and more red than the blue-based Insanely It, nor does the Revlon has the little purple duochrome.

It brightens up the face immediately, even without other forms of makeup on, imagine that! ^.^Granted, it does not look as bright on me as it does on the tube, but you can layer on the color.

I put on one extra layer and did my usually Happy Goth style eyeliner, and a little bit of Nars Deep Throat, nothing to fussy. heehee.

The wear time is about 3-4 hours. Standard wear time for a Mac lippie. No complaints there. It’s a little moisturizing too.

Funny story:

I was sooo happy that I managed to save some moolah for something nice last month, I checked out the Mac store after lunch in Sunway Pyramid with my friends. So, I told them. If I got more than 3 pieces, they’ll have to pull me out of the store and ban me from going to Sunway Pyramid with them for a whole month.

Needless to say, I just got this one.

~~I’m such a good girl. The Styledriven collection was just out that time, I wanted to get the bright pink Pro Longwear lip gloss… Full Speed Ahead, it was called, methinks?~~

I’m just too… stingy.

Hmmm… I Can Get Used To This… Quick Review: Biore Cleansing Wipes

Anyone saw this before?

It’s the pack of Biore Cleansing Wipes, which are essentially wipes soaked in cleansing oil, and has been touted to wipe off even the toughest of waterproof mascara.

This is how it looks inside. Not really much to say about it, except that the starter park comes with 48 pieces and the box. ^.^

Let’s see how it works, shall we?

My everyday look, foundation, brows, blush and some sort of eyeliner, and faded lipstick.

I’ve cleaned off the right side with one side of the sheet, and, well, it’s clean off, except a quite stubborn spot of eyeliner on the lower lashline. Not bad at all, don’t you think?

Needless to say, I easily removed the other side of the face with the other side of the sheet, and everything came off clean! ^.^

Will I repurchase? Maybe. There are so many different products to try, so yeah.

It’s Just Too Awesome… I Can’t Even… Review: Palladio Eye Ink in Smokey

Girls (and guys), I believe that I have found one of THE BEST eyeliners ever.

This is the Palladio Eye Ink, which is essentially a short, stubby eyeliner with a felt tip. I got this one from my Makeupgeek.com Haul, and I know that I promised a collective haul, but I decided that this baby was so awesome that it should have its own post, teehee!

It is a lovely bluish grey color, and one of the reasons I chose this was because of the color. Being a fan of black eyeliner, I guess I needed something different and “softer”.

This is its tip, and even though it was long, it is firm enough, which makes for highly precise application.

It can define the eyes old-school style.

Personally, I think that my Etude House eyeliner could do a better job at this due to the finer brush.

Where this baby shines is that it delivers the most brilliant cat eye.

NEVER, I repeat, NEVER in my life have I achieved perfect cat eyes with liquid eyeliner. The best I’ve done is with gel liner only, I swear. The Palladio Eye Ink not only made evenness with the flick achievable, but the results were replicable.

Every.

Single.

Time.

The other thing I liked about it was the wear time.

This was taken at 8 AM in the morning, when I’ve just arrived at the Uni car park.

This was taken at 6.45 PM in the evening. What I could say was that the Bobbi Brown gel liner on the waterline was behaving very, very well that day, heh heh.

Look at the cat eye, dear readers, it did not even BUDGE. Can you imagine that? I live in Malaysia, land of hot weather, and still, it didn’t move a millimeter.

I’m totally going to get this in every color possible on my next Makupgeek.com haul, fo’ sure, yo! Dang, there are 6 of them. Yeowch

Retails in at Makeupgeek.com for USD 6, meaning its RM 18, more or less. That’s dog-gone affordable!

Pros: Extremely long wearing, easy to use, great cat-eye, lovely color.

Cons: Can’t get into lashline really well.

FOTD: The No-Makeup Makeup Look

In an age where women contradict each other, there are many… paradoxes that we women are faced with.

Women who are independent of men, able to buy whatever they want (usually expensive things), they are labeled as materialistic b-words.

Women who have high self-esteem, they are called narcissists.

Women who instead stay behind their husbands, waiting for them with dinner ready are called mindless robots of the patriarchal system.

Women who hide themselves from others, are labeled as having low self-worth, and are not worth mentioning at all.

Then we have women who wear makeup, and women who don’t.

The women who don’t wear makeup criticize women for being “fake”, needing to hide behind a mask that shows an altered appearance, and not their true selves. These women are deemed to be wasting their lives, putting their faces on every morning, and whatnot.

The women who wear makeup claim those who don’t are being lazy and sloppy, that putting on makeup is a sign that they respect the place and people that they will be going to or meet.

I’m being very, very cynical here, and that’s usually the case of the person I am in real life. Methinks this look was invented by people who want to wear makeup, but they are afraid of what people would say about them. It is for the people who claim that they prefer to look “natural”, while they have no guts to bare their naked face to the world.

Alright, I shall stop complaining about the sorry state of the world, and go on with the FOTD.

Well, let us have a before picture, to see the effect of the makeup.

Eeeeks, dark circles, round face, large pores. Meh. How can such ugliness be allowed to walk the earth?

First, you need a really, really good foundation that does the following:

provide buildable coverage
not too matte, not too dewy
stays long on your face

If you use a heavy coverage foundation, it is immediately known that you have foundation on, because no bloody human can have such a good complexion at all.

If it is too matte, you’ll be “discovered”, because one’s skin is not matte naturally. If it is too shiny, you most certainly have some kind of highlighter on. Freaking b-word, why can’t you just admit you’re ugly?

Oh, conceal any blemishes that you may have with a concealer that matches your skin.

If you have a huge nose like me, you’ll need to contour your nose. and eyes. I’ll first teach you how to do your nose. With a matte bronzer, sweep the bronzer onto the sides of your nose to reduce the width. If you use a contouring shade, 3 shades darker than your skintone, you won’t be caught out because it will look just like natural shadows of your face.

If you are of Eastern Asian ethnicity like me, you’ll have small eyes. How do you cheat and make your eyes look bigger? Put the bronzer in your crease. It makes your eyes look deeper, hence bigger. Le yay!

As for the brows, do them as you have always done. I mixed a grey, brown and black eyeshadows to get a shade that matches my hair and filled them in with an angled brush.

If you want, add one coat of your favorite mascara, make it thin.

Now, contour your face to make it slimmer. Now is the time to add highlight, because you’ll have to balance the, er, dimensions of your face. If you sink any part of your face inwards, you have to raise another part of your face with highlighter. That way, your look will more cohesive.

So there you have it, a no makeup makeup look! If I came across as being angry, heh heh, it was just to set the mood for the post. ^.^ But honestly, I never liked people who said that people who wore makeup were fake and were lying to themselves and the world. Bleh. I wear makeup because I can and I like to. ^.^

FOTD Revisited: Beyond the Realm of Conscience –Yew Kam Ling (姚金铃)

Well, I sorta rewatched my favorite Hong Kong drama in recent years, and I also made a new twist to the FOTD that I’ve made to honor my favorite character, Kam Ling.

I have to admit that it was very, very badly made and photographed, so I decided to do it all over again.

Ah, Yew Kam Ling. She lived a fairy tale, you know. A palace maid who ended up as a concubine. One would think that she would have gained all that she wanted, but, fate would take it all away.

You see, from a young, young age, Kam Ling always told herself that the palace was a dark and evil place, where each and every single one there would lie, cheat and murder for their own survival. As a palace maid, she was often used as a pawn of others, and often suffered punishment because she wanted to help her best friend.

Such treatment turned sweet, sweet, Kam Ling…

Into the prima concubine she is.

Even as a concubine, she was bullied by others due to her low status as a palace maid before the Emperor bullied her, so with hatred in her heart, she decided to wreak vangence on all who dared to step on top of her before.

Here’s a clip to show you what kind of person Kam Ling is.

Alright, so Kam Ling is a plotting, conniving b-word. Does not mean that I cannot like her, no? I like her because she is so evil teehee!

You know, it’s Tavia Yeung’s first role as a baddie, and she carried it out with aplomb! Congrats to her!

Well now, we shall move onto the FOTD.

As you can see, Kam Ling’s look is comprised of a dark, edged eyeshadow look and red lips. My favorite!

Get your cellophane tape ready!

From what I could see from the clip above and the entire series, Kam Ling’s eyeshadow is brown, but has a lot of warmth. Little old me did not have the skill to replicate such intricacy, hence I picked out orange, bronze and a highlight in a top-down horizontal manner as you can see from the picture above.

First, stick a piece of cellophane tape at the corner of your eye. Make sure that the angle is not too sharp because we only want a sharp line, not almost diagonal eyeshadow edges. Then, take an orange eyeshadow and pat it onto your lid, making sure that there are no gaps at the lash line. Follow with a sweep of bronze into the crease.

Then, highlight your browbone with a color that is only a bit lighter than your skintone, as well as blending out the edges of the bronze in the crease.

Take off the cellophane tape and start to blend the edge a tiny bit with some more of the bronze. You want it to be straight, but not too stark.

Line the upper lashline with your favorite liner and apply falsies. I stacked two of them together to make my eyes lashes look bigger, and hence, my eyes as well when they’re opened.

Smudge the lower lashline with the same blond eyeshadow, and tightline with black eyeliner.

Complete the look by defining your brows. Dang I need to get mine done soon.

Oh, and for the nose. Tavia Yeung has a sharper, straighter nose than I, so I had to contour it a little. The trick here is to use a matte brown eyeshadow that is 3 shades darker than your natural skintone and run it down the sides of your nose. Blend it out so that there are no visible lines. You’ll make your nose look slimmer.

For the face, you don’t want any color, but you want that long, sharp face that she has. The only way you can do it is by contouring. Take a matte (or almost matte) bronzer and sweep it underneath your cheekbones, bringing it up to your temples. Blend the bronzer on your jawbone too.

We Chinese call this the 瓜子 (sunflower seed) face. Which I do not have at all.

Put on your favorite orange-based red lipstick, a little red gloss in the center and you’re done!

According to my friends, I failed. I looked more slutty 妖) than conniving. Bleh.

Wow…. I Don’t Believe It! Review: Etude House Oh m’Eye Liquid Eyeliner in Black

This eyeliner looks just like my Etude House Primer, does it not?

However, that’s where all the similarities end heh heh. This little bottle, my dears, is actually an eyeliner! Well, er, liquid eyeliner, that is!

It is a mighty fine brush, innit? I meant that in the most literal way possible. It is a fine, sharp and pointed brush, and is soft, unlike the Revlon Colorstay liquid liner.

It is this sharp eyeliner that causes a few… problems. You need a steady hand to do this, seriously. Take your time. Also, because it is so soft, you’ll have to work AROUND your lashes when lining your eyes. That can be a pain.

It is very, very difficult to line right at the base of the lashes for the reason mentioned above. HOWEVER, you’ll get to a lovely cat eye at the end. Maybe it’s because I’ve not yet mastered how to use it yet?

However, this is NOT where the eyeliner shines. It is in the lasting power.

This is me taking a photograph about 10 hours later. The Bobbi Brown gel liner has disappeared (but not smudged, strangely) into nothingness even with primer underneath, but the liquid liner’s still standing.

Believe

It.

A Korean-brand eyeliner actually beat Miss Brown in her own game.

(Once again, I plead not guilty to any racism towards Koreans!!)

Both had UDPP underneath them, and even the cat eye’s tails stayed in place!

Well, the Bobbi Brown was in the waterline, and well, nothing ever lasts in the waterline for me. So…

Perhaps next time I’ll do one eyeliner on one eye to compare the performance. Anyone want to volunteer? Anyone?

Also, this baby lasted 6 hours on me WITHOUT a primer. No siree!

Well, there you have it. A strange winner indeed! I don’t really like the brush, but that being said, I may have the hang of it in the future. I’ll give this one the benefit of the doubt.

I just can’t imagine it beat my Bobbi Brown gel liner. Revlon’s gonna have to pack their bags in the liquid liner department!

I Still Don’t Get Korean… Never Mind. Review: Etude House 55 Kissful Tint Chou Lip Tint in Deep Pink

I don’t mean to sound racist or anything, but I really, really do not get Koreans. Can anyone please tell me what the… f… er, heck, does “Chou” mean? PLEASE?

Oh, all right, let’s get on to the review.

First of all, this is a lip tint. What it means that it offers long-wearing color, longer than your average lipstick, which is what I’ve been searching for ever since I discovered I somehow eat my lipsticks. ^.^ There are about 3 colors, Deep Orange, Deep Pink and Deep Red. Mine is Deep Pink.

It is quite pigmented, I would say, and on the first squeeze (it is a squeeze tube with a pointed nozzle, after all), what you get is a little blob of gel that looks like the syrup you get on ice kacang (red bean shaved ice for you foreign lovelies).

Oh, and it works on the cheeks too! Just a word of reminder: Use half of what you would use for the lips if you want to use it on your cheeks, because you will have a HELL of a time blending, trust me.

Here is a picture of me with the product on lips and cheeks, fresh after a bath, heh heh! I acutally did make a mistake of using too much product on my face, but the problem was saved easily with my trusty tapered face brush from Sigma. Yay!

Color wise, I’d say it suits my skintone. If you’re fairer than I am, just make sure to make the blob of product that you squeeze out smaller. How much did I use? About the size of a pin’s head. You know, the kind that you stick on them soft boards at school/in the office? If you’re fairer, try the size of a taugeh (bean sprout)’s head. If you’re darker, just make it a little larger than a pin’s head.

On the lips, this baby lasts about 4 hours, which is really good in my book. However, it is rather drying, and I actually wanted some lip balm on top of it after the 3 hour mark.

Oh, and another thing. It smells and tastes of cherry, and it is very, very heavy. I opened it in the store to swatch it and I went like: OMG this tastes like cough syrup! The SA could not do anything but nod sheepishly and smile.

Gah! I want this!! Review: MAC Pro Longwear Foundation in NC 30

Alright, anyone who’s read my lust list post knows that I have a HUGE pic of this baby. ^.^

I also told you guys that I want this because I’ve tried it, and it is indeed heavenly!

Here’s my dinky little sample bottle. Ahem. I still have many, many uses out of this, mind you! ^.^

It looks a little yellow on my hand, but I assure you that it matches my face perfectly. My face is somehow the darkest part of my body naturally too, heh heh. The left swatch is the foundation straight from the sample, and the right swatch is the foundation blended slightly.

This is my face without any trace of makeup. If you cannot stand ugliness please scroll down quickly!

This is me with the foundation on. ^.^ The white cast is due to the SPF 10 and the flash. Besides, my shoulders look whiter too, so I think it’s the lighting, heh heh.

I’m not sure if you can see this, but this foundation has the ability to cover the tens of thousands of little (but visible) pores that I have. It is for this reason that I search for high coverage foundations despite not having much spots (am not bragging. You ladies are LUCKY that you need lesser coverage heheh). I’d say that this baby does the job rather well, don’t you?

The finish is… phenomenal. I can’t quite say that it’s a matte, but it gives a slight sheen. It’s almost like the Studio Fix Fluid, but a little more long-wearing and a little more watery. The Studio Fix Fluid is matte and drier, which may be a good or bad thing, depending on you. But I definitely prefer this one to the Studio Fix Fluid ^.^

8 hours later, the foundation looks just as good! ^.^

This is awesome! I did not feel oily at the least even after so long, which is a great feat. Like the Clinique Superbalanced, it prolongs (no pun intended) the wear of blushes and bronzers, particularly when worn with a primer!

MAC, why do you make so many products that I like? I’m such a sucker for MAC lippies and foundations heh heh. ^.^

A Nail Collection For a Happy Goth! Review: OPI Go Goth Collection Mini

I know it’s bloody early for Halloween. I do know that I am a year late in review this collection, but I got it online for cheap so sue me.

Just LOOK at these beauties! All are black-based nail polishes that totally give you the Halloween vibe!

The red one is named Sanguine, the black is Obscure, the blue is Unripened and the purple is Nevermore.

Sanguine is a blood-red color with a hint of gold. It reminds me of burgundy, and really does put me into author-mode, writing those swashbuckling fight scenes with lots of blood! ^.^ Hence, it has the name, methinks.

Obscure is a matte black. It applies like any black nail polish, but dries to a matte finish. When it completely dries, it becomes almost grey in color. Not that I mind that much, but it loses its matte texture should you apply top coat over it.

Unripened, on the other hand, is actually a black with incredible amounts of blue in it, so much so that it becomes a duochrome. However, you can’t really see the effect under dark lighting.

Nevermore is a purple with a hint of blue duochrome. It has a glittery effect, and is ultimately beautiful when paired with the black base. I have to admit, I cannot stop looking at my nails whenever I have this on!

Here’s a picture of the colors without flash. You can see that they apply quite true to the color in the bottle!

These are my first OPI nail polishes after Silver Shatter, could you believe it? OPI in Malaysia is seriously overpriced. One full-sized bottle costs RM 56 and a set of two full-sized bottles costs RM 96, which is quite the deal. Minis are usually RM 76, hence my lateness on the OPI bandwagon.

First off, I would like to say that the formula of the nail polishes is phenomenal. They apply so smoothly and dry so quickly! Those RM 5 Elianto nail polishes just don’t cut for me anymore. I’d rather save for an OPI heh heh ^.^

Oh My… I Can’t Believe I Forgot About You! Review: UDPP in Sin

Anyone remember my Singapore haul?

That was almost exactly a year ago, and I have not even touched my UDPP in Sin!

That is just a ghastly mistake on my part, but it has since been remedied.

This is how it looks like close up. Just like its sister, the UDPP original (which is still going strong, btw!), it’s shaped like a “genie bottle” and has a doe-foot applicator.

The color looks awfully bronze, does it not? Don’t worry, when you blend it out, you won’t see a thing!

Can you see the swatch on the right? All you’ll get is a thin film of shimmer, and mind you, those glitter particles won’t run all over the place, I promise!

It works just like the UDPP Original. Eye products you put onto your eyelid will not budge at all until you remove them, colors will stay vibrant and crease less than they do without primer (except Clinique eyeshadows, those are stubborn @$$holes, but still I love them heh heh).

HOWEVER, if you have medium to dark skin like me (Am NC/NW 30). Please, never, never use this on your lower lashline.

It will get ASHY on you. You can’t really see it in the picture, but in school, I had SUCH A SHOCK. I literally looked like a reverse panda, and even my friends asked what products I was testing. I didn’t know what went wrong until I remembered that I used the UDPP in Sin that morning on my lower lashline! Not a good look at all.

So yeah, I do like this one as much as the UDPP Original, I’ll just have to be careful not to apply it onto my lower lashline next time heh heh.

OMG THIS IS SOOOO ME!!!! Bellismo! IDK where I read it from, but I recall someone saying that designer heels don’t hurt your feet as much. I love how the heel is not so bloody pointy. Looks like a stable one, does it not?

5) Nars Malaysia Multiple Bronzer

I’ll be a Malaysian wearing Malaysia if I do get this. heh heh heh. How cool would that be? Now that I’m already familiar with bronzer, I thought might use a stick/cream one heh heh.
6) Nars Sheer Matte in Punjab, Barcelona or Stromboli

Well, Temptalia said that my skintone would match any of the three. Imagine if I got this and the above item, Malaysia. The conversation would be like this:

Oh, boots. I live in a tropical country, so I don’t really know how I’m going to pull this off without sweating lots through my feet. That would be awkward.
But look at it… so dominatrix! As my friends would put it… “So riaw!” (Riaw = how a cat sounds like when it’s, er, high or angry).

Warning: Always, Always Wear Sunscreen!

Sunscreen is important. It prevents skin cancer, premature aging and more importantly, tan-lines.

Wait a minute, before you ask me, “Hanny, why the heck are you highlighting tan lines? Isn’t tanning a good thing?”, let me provide you with the social context where I live. Being dark is NOT good. Everyone here wants to be fairer than they currently are. (Oh, how we envy you Caucasians!!! I particularly wish for Slavic genes, heh heh).

As you all know, I’m of NC/NW 30 complexion, which is technically the middle between fair and dark in Asia. This means that although being Chinese, I’m prone to be mistaken to be of other ethnicities (No offense to any other race, of course) even by Chinese people.

So, if you’re Asian, and are trying to NOT become dark like I already am, please do wear your sunscreen when you are going out in the hot sun, lest you end up like my poor, poor feet post Vietnam.

(Forgive the bad pedicure, I was just back from Vietnam when I took the pictures of my tan lines)

If you can see, there are tan lines on my feet and angles that form a strange pattern, yes? That’s because I was wearing gladiators that day we took a boat ride on a river for 2 hours under the hot sun. TWO HOURS!

I applied sunscreen all over my body except my feet. Those lines you see are actually from the strips of leather that covered part of the skin on my feet from the sun. AAAH!

I think my feet got precisely one shade darker!

Oh well, at least I didn’t tan on other parts of my body. Gods, it takes me one whole year to recover from a tan!

So ladies (and gentlemen, of course), please do wear your sunscreen out. Not just during vacations!! Don’t forgot your sunglasses too! Which brings to mind, if you do wear sunglasses, please wear sunscreen too. You don’t want to have tan lines of your sunnies on your face, trust me.

How many Gleeks (Glee fans) out there do you know? I’m NOT one at all, but I do know two girls that are utterly OBSESSED. Coincidence is, two of them are named Steph. BWAHAHAHAHA.
I’m featuring one of them, namely, Stephie F, who, like Stephie Y, is my coursemate in my Communications degree.

By far, she’s the coolest chick I know, and she ain’t your typical demure Indian chick! This gal be badass, yo!
However, it is not enough to only describe her day to day awesomeness with only just words (frankly, she scared the $#it outta me the first time I met her. I AM SERIOUS!). All in all, she (along with our zany coursemates/friends) taught me to see that every person is special. (Believe me, if you come to my Uni and go to the other programs, you WON’T get gangstas of this quality of awesome).
Well, to be honest, the sole reason for my dedicating this post to Stephie F is because of her courage, rising against social stigma, to come out and tell the world that she’s a lesbian, and on Twitter too.
Now, now, I must tell you that I am a MAJOR LGBT supporter. Thus, this post and FOTD is made to honor her and to congratulate her.
Thus, our “little secret project” is revealed! Stephie F chose the colors red, grey and black for this look. Hey, red eyeshadow is hot this fall! Don’t believe me, Google it!

First, take a matte grey eyeshadow and apply it to the inner corner of your eye. Since matte eyeshadows are so hard to work with, make sure that you pat the eyeshadow on, and not swipe it on or you’re bound to get lotsa fallout.
After that, take your red/maroon eyeshadow and apply it to the outer corner of your eye. The key here is to blend the grey and the red together so you have a seamless wash of color.

With whatever is left on whatever is used to apply the red eyeshadow, smudge it along the lower lashline. Don’t worry, with the black eyeliner on the waterline, you won’t look like you’ve been crying.

Now, take a black eyeshadow and apply it onto the crease. If during this stage the black spreads over the red and grey, just layer more of the same colors on the eyelid. This will keep the black from overpowering the other colors.

Apply eyeliner on the upper lashline. It doesn’t need to take any shape, just to define the eyes and you’re alright. I used false lashes for this look because Stephie F is Indian, and they’re famous for their beautiful long lashes. I, on the other hand, heh heh, am not as blessed as she is. ^.^
Lastly, using a light, shimmering color, highlight your brow bone and apply it around the edges of the crease to blend the black out.
Now, we move on to the rest of the face.

So, I don’t make a convincing Indian, being as white as a sheet. However, I went for something of a dewy finish as Stephie F has BRILLIANT SKIN OMGNESS!
Anyways, since the look is so dark I HAVE to keep it neutral. So, I just contoured my face with bronzer, highlighted the high points of my face, and went for a slightly reddish nude lip. ^.^

Review: Essence Cosmetics Stay With Me Lipgloss

Omgness, I’ve just realized that I’ve not yet reviewed my Essence Cosmetics stash. In case you do not know, Essence Cosmetics is a drugstore brand hailing from Germany, and is famous for being very, very cheap, heh heh ^.^ Good for broke people, like me!

This is the one that I’m going to review, namely the Stay With Me Lipgloss in the color Trendsetter. It is a pleasant deep pink/fuchsia color which I really do adore, heh heh.

Look at the applicator, isn’t it the strangest thing you ever saw? Apparently, you apply the lipgloss onto your lips following the curve of the applicator, and well, it does work better that way, heh heh.

Don’t you just love the color? The texture is a little bit sticky, but it does not bother me much. I must say that it does stay on the lips for quite some time as well, and has a scent/taste to it that I cannot put my hand on.

Hmmm, looks like a sheer lipstick, does it not? If only it had a thicker (not gloopier) texture, it’ll be just like them new-fangled liquid lipsticks and my hunt would be over, hahaha. ^.^

However, that’s not to say that I don’t like it at all. It delivers a punch of color, alright. I just want a lipstick of that color family that is liquid. heh heh. (Meaning to say, I want the Chanel Rouge Allure Lacque in Ming, anyone nice enough to sponsor me?)

Etude House Haul. One Word of Warning: Cheap!

This is what I got from Etude House, the entirely pink Korean cosmetics brand.

I’ll be honest with you, my darlings, this author is highly broke from all the purchases last holiday, and am extremely lucky to have found these jewels!

They are, from left to right, the 55 Kissful Tint Chou (WTF DOES THAT MEAN? *Sorry for the expletive*), the Ohm’eye Magic Lash Double Up Volume mascara and the Ohm’eye Liner, which is liquid liner. (Note from Hanny: Sorry if I try to sound rude, but I utterly do not get anything Korean/Chinese/Taiwanese. However, makeup is makeup, and makeup deserves to be respected despite their nationality, as all humans are.)

I will post a review when I’m done playing with them, all right? Till then, see ya later!

An FOTD I absolutely have to do! Slytherin!!

My dear, dear readers, you know I love you but I have a confession to make. At precisely 2: 31AM yesterday, I received an owl confirming my attendance to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and went to Diagon Alley to purchase all my things (including an owl, uniforms, scales, telescopes, books and cauldrons and other stuff). My wand is made of sycamore, dragon heart-string, slightly bendy and is 12.5 inches long.

The best thing was: I GOT SORTED INTO SLYTHERIN, YAY!

Truth is, I got into Pottermore. Hah hah hah. Yes, I went to find the feather a few weeks ago, and I got in, FINALLEH!

The thing is, as a Harry Potter fan, you KNOW that Slytherin House is for the bad guys. Voldemort was a Slytherin, the Malfoys and Lestranges, I can name you many, many more, however, there were also good guys like Horace Slughorn. heh heh. But, me being me, I went through a series of questions that the Sorting Hat asked me and I did answer them truthfully, and landed myself in Slytherin.

So, the only thing that was logical for me to do was to, well, make an FOTD in honor of my house.

First, apply a dark base all over the lid. I used my Bobbi Brown gel liner. The dark base allows the shimmery colors to shine through and be more potent, heh heh.

Take a silver eyeshadow and pat it into the inner corner of the eye right till the halfway point of the eyelid where the arch of your brow lies. Apply a shimmering green eyeshadow that has no obvious undertone on the remaining area of the eyelid. Blend well.

For the crease, take a deep olive green and swirl it into your crease, where you can feel your eye socket. This is important because it acts as a gradient and shows depth.

Next, take a black of any kind you like and define the outer v by drawing a > shape on the right eye and a < on the left eye, dragging the remaining color into the crease and over the olive green.

Line your lower waterline with a dark blue eyeliner, to make the whites of your eyes stand out a little more, and smudge the same green you used on the lid on the lower lashline.

Finish the look with a cat eye on the upper lashline and the biggest lashes you can find. ^.^

For all you know, this is just a green replication of the previous FOTD, however, I shall clear all doubts. Slytherins, be they the fundamentalist pure-blood supremists or just plain determined, rule-disregarding geniuses, they are refined. Hence, there will be no vamping up in this look ^.^

The lips and face are soft and pretty in contrast to the stark eyes. MLBB lipstick and a peachy pink blush are all you need heh heh. ^.^Oh, and make sure you apply the blush slightly below your cheekbones, almost like a contour. ^.^

So there you have it, a look for Slytherin House. I may or may not do similar looks for the other three houses, but if I do, I’ll let you guys know. heh heh heh. ^.^

FOTD: Ice-Blue Happy Goth, Just Because ^.^

It was a warm, balmy Friday when I did this FOTD. I didn’t have school (I have a three-day school week, MUAHAHAHA), and I didn’t have anything urgently due, so I decided to have one with my stash, as always. ^.^

I used a silver eyeshadow all over the lid and a teal above it in the crease. Make sure that the teal above the silver does not overlap it too much. If it does, well, you’re DOOMED! Hahahaha, just kidding, just layer a the silver over the lid again. Makes the color all the more pigmented also. ^.^

Now, darken the outer edges of the eye with a matte black eyeshadow only in the outer v to provide a sense of depth and dimension. If you want more drama (like me!) drag the black a little deeper into the crease.

For your lower lashline, apply the teal color blended with a little bit of the black. Line the lower waterline with any black gel/pencil eyeliner you want, or blue if you like ^.^

Line your upper lashline in the oh-so overdone (but my favorite) cat eye (EEEKS, MY EYELINER WAS DYING ON ME!!), and you’re done for the eyes!

Since the eyes are so cool, you’ll want something warm. Hence, a light dusting of a coral blush and some brick red lipstick (I mixed colors) and you’re set!

IF you wish to adhere to tradition, mind you use a nude/soft pink to tone down the look. This look is a blue version of Happy Goth, so by definition, it HAS to have the edge to it. ^.^

So there’s that, and I’m off to rejoin my assignment rush, heh heh heh.

Review: Clinique Superbalanced Foundation in 36 Beige Chiffon

Remember the time I was testing foundation after foundation after foundation, looking for THE ONE? Well, dahlings, I’ve found it thanks to S, my dear fellow blogger and reader/Twitter partner ^.^ She was lovely enough to send me this baby RIGHT FROM THE UK!! CAN YOU BELIEVE IT? A FULL, UNUSED BOTTLE! THANK YOU DAHLING!

There is a reason why I love Clinique as a brand so much.

Look at the swatches, blended on the left and unblended on the right. It literally MELTS into my skintone, heh heh.

So here you can see my face, bare and oily and holey right without anything on.

Here, you can see that the immense rows of tiny pores have gone! The whitish cast is definitely due to the flash, because as you can see, even my neck is fairer than in the previous picture, heh heh. ^.^

I applaude not only the coverage of this foundation, but the staying power. When used with primer, I did not need to blot my face until around 3-4 p.m. in the afternoon. I also realized that it made my blush/bronzer stay on for longer, heh heh.

Can you actually believe that this is how my face looks like when I’ve returned from Uni all sticky and hot, about 12 hours later? You can still see the bronzer on my forehead and cheekbones, heh heh!

People may not like the fact that it does not have a pump, but I don’t mind heh heh. I'll always pump the stuff onto the back of my hand anyways ^.^

As for the finish, I’ll say its quite matte, but not that flat, which makes it look just like skin, in my case. ^.^

(Since I got it free, I don’t really know the price, sorry!) Retails at Clinique counters all across Malaysia and Singapore.

P.S: I’ve realized that the Superfit foundations disappeared from Clinique counters, can anyone please confirm that?

P.P.S: Does anyone plan to try the new Pro Longwear Foundation from MAC? I might be getting that for Xmas or something heh heh!

FOTD: Bronzy Goth! An Ode to Summer

Today was a day that I decided I wanted to spice up my look. Summer is dying, and I realized that I had not gone into the bronze/gold tones of the season, and remedied it this very morning.

Behold, Bronzy Goth! Tis a bronze/gold look with my little kitten flick and a hint of red lips heh heh heh. Also, due to the look being almost monochromatic, I’ll just give you the names of the colors I used.

(This look was inspired by the video below, by Lisa Eldrige, albeit lighter and less dramatic)

If you want me to recreate this look exactly, please do tell me!

The first thing you should do is to get a gold base all over your eyelid. This will make the colors stand out more. It can be a gold eyeliner or a cream shadow, so long as it’s gold.

Then, take MAC’s Melon pigment and apply it liberally onto the inner half of your eyelid to open the eyes up. For the outer half, I used MAC’s Rose Gold pigment, but you can’t really see the pink tones underneath the sunlight, bah.

Since we have two lighter gold tones on the lid, you’ll want to continue the theme with a darker gold eyeshadow in the crease. I used NYX’s Pure Gold eyeshadow. If you can’t see the color in the crease, darken it just a little bit with a dark coppery bronze color with olive tones, this for me, was the 9th eyeshadow from the Tarte Jewelry Box palette.

Now, line your upper and lower waterlines with your favorite eyeliner, add on mascara, and you’re done!

Now, the face is pretty simple. Just contour your face with some bronzer to keep the monochromatic look. The lips, on the other hand, can be as dark and red as you want. I went for a little light red as I was heading to Uni, heh heh heh.

So there you have it! A look that celebrates summer! I’m not really a summer person, coming from a country that’s summer all year round, heh heh heh.

My Travel Beauty Bag!

I used to house my tag-along items in this China-made makeup pouch which officially died last week. I just got this in Daiso. Yes, its RM 5.

Since this is my travel stash, it’s larger than what I usually carry, heh heh.

Here are the face cosmetics.

Eyes and lips. More lips than eyes, ahahaha.

Here I have my Sephora primer, Stage concealer, kabuki brush, NARS Deep Throat, Elianto gel blush (discontinued hence will not review) and MAC Blot. I used the gel blush as a precursor to the NARS Deep Throat so it could stay on longer heh heh.

There’s no foundation in sight because I don’t have anywhere to put it. I’m very, very clumsy and the thought of having to clean up a broken foundation bottle irks me.

I’m such a lippie junkie I HAVE to have two lipbalms and glosses and three lipsticks. Yes, I may change lip colors during the day. Don’t worry, they’re all pink except the Burts Bees lip shimmer.

The all-renown UDPP, Clinique Eyes to Go Travel Palette, Cyber Colors brow pencil, Bobbi Brown gel liner and Sasa brush.

Can you imagine that the UDPP makes my eye makeup last tens of hours? I went to Ha Long Bay this morning. Applied my makeup at 7.30am, took it off at 8.45pm. My eyeshadow was still existant and my eyeliner smudged only a little on the LOWER WATERLINE. All this, through excessive sweating under the hot sun for hours!

Oh, and do not forget to bring lots of wet wipes. You’ll need them when you have smudges, or become too hot, thus need to cool off. ^.^

FOTD: Sea-Coconut and Red Date Tong Sui (Dessert)

Here’s a funny thing. Remember in my previous post I told you how behind I am in my work and I’ll not post anything until I’m done with it? Well, I am done with it! YAY!

So, what is a sea-coconut and red date tong sui?

Can you see the little white bits that are not round? That’s sea coconut. The red ones are the red dates (duh!) and the round bits are longans. It’s basically a sweet soup with all the ingredients thrown into a pot to boil. (I don’t fancy such desserts at all in the first place ahahahaha)

Why a FOTD of such a dessert? Well, I finished a chunk of my assignment and felt that I should reward myself for being such a good girl, and I needed to test out my new camera anyways, so I proceeded to take an FOTD with the help of S.

Let’s move on to the FOTD! ^.^

First, you need to lay a shimmering light color about three shades lighter than your skintone all over your eyelid. This acts as a base color and corresponds to the color of the sugary soup, which derives its color from the various ingredients you put in.

After that, take a silver color and apply it into the crease. If your silver is not dark enough, layer a medium grey over it. You want the crease to be pronounced.

Now, take a faint orange-gold and brush it over the silver/grey LIGHTLY. You only want a hint of color as a semi-highlight.

To tie the whole look together, apply a little of the silver eyeshadow on the lower lashline. I was a bit heavy-handed this time. Usually I go for a thinner line >.<

When you’re done with that, line the eyes in whatever way you want and stick on them falsies!

For the face, I decided to go light with the usual contouring and peachy blush. You don’t see many other colors in the dessert, no?

The lips, of course are a stark bright red, corresponding with the red dates. This look was so neutral that it needed something to give it more oomph, heh heh. Believe it or not, I actually mixed two red lippies together.

Wow, that is another milestone indeed.

I thank you, my darlings, for all the support I’ve received thus far.

This time, special thanks gets to my dear reader, S, who has delivered a certain package (that I will notify you lovelies of soon) that made my life so much easier (and my budget too).

However, I do have a spot of bad news to report to you.

I am now currently way, way behind on a Business Law assignment (not my doing, I had two assignments before this one, which I’ve just handed in this morning), and will not post anything until I’m done with that.

My absence would persist perhaps until after the Eid holidays (or Raya season in Malaysia or Singapore) because I’ll be heading off to Vietnam for a little family vacation.

Oh, and I have got a new camera. ^.^ It’s a Samsung NX 100, and I’m taking my time to get well-acquainted with it. So yeah.

I’m very, very sorry that I can’t be updating as often as I would like, I really am.

Quick Review: Chanel Rouge Coco in Organdi Rose

You know what? I’m starting to have this philosophy of saving up to buy more expensive (and higher quality) cosmetics rather than plenty of cheap ones.

However, thanks to my purchases since the end of my Semester One exams, I am quite broke. Thanks to my aunt, I received this as a gift because she didn’t like the color. My first and only Rouge Coco!

I was literally jumping for joy when I received this, heh heh heh. I’ve always wanted a Chanel lipstick, more for the interlocking Cs than a lipstick. (Pssst. Rouge Allure Lacque in Dragon and Ming, just you wait!)

Ooops, I accidentally smooshed the top. >.<

Is it not such a lovely color? It’s, pink and metallic. An instant fave. This is now part of my collection of lipsticks in heavy rotation along with my Dior Addict in Diorkiss.

On my lips, it is an instant My Lips but Better color. Definitely Mama Kee friendly.

As you can see in the above picture, taken with flash, it brings a sheen to my lips, making it look alive.

I love it because it is comfortable to wear, and you don’t really feel it when you have it on. It lasted about 5 hours on me, which is great for me. However, I do not mind about wear time much. ^.^

Of course, there is a but.

The right swatch is Revlon Colorburst in Mauve, and you can instantly see that it is very similar to Organdi Rose save for the slight golden tone and shimmer. Come on, it’s a Rouge Coco, it should be unique!

I am lucky that I didn’t get this, or I would’ve paid more for a color I already own. However, if you are a brand snob or a Chanel fan, such trifles should not bother you. ^.^

All in all, it is a beautiful lipstick. I might save up for more, but I’ll get them after Ming and Dragon. heh heh heh.

Pros: Lovely color, excellent wear-time, no allergies, comfortable wear.

Cons: Instantly duped, has a taste I can’t describe but dissipates quickly.

Something very, very bad has happened.

My camera has been stolen by unnamed thugs on a motorbike when my brother was shooting a video for his history project.

We have made a police report, but due to the lack of information, the Police said that it is nigh impossible to recover it.

It’s all right, I’ll have to borrow my aunt’s camera until we get a new one. If she’s willing that is.

On that hand, anyone have good suggestions for cameras?

Review: Shiro Cosmetics Eyeshadows. Warning: Picture Heavy!

When Pokemon and cosmetics mix, you’ll know for sure that I’ll be there. ^.^

I’m sure that you have met these cuties before:

Now, after playing with them for a while, I’m ready to give you lovely readers a review of them! ^.^

Now, the orange-gold is called Charmander, the blue is Squirle, the green is Bulbasaur and the yellow is Pikachu. I’ll just go by their names now.

First off, I’ve already told you about how these eyeshadows are colored according to the Pokemon they’re named after, and I have to say, they are pretty darn accurate. I’ll show you what I mean one by one.

Here’s Charmander. Awww, ain’t he just adorable?

And here how Charmander in eyeshadow format looks like up close. Very, very true to design no? I call it an orange gold because it looks more gold than orange when you look at it from far. It has a yellow undertone, and can be paired with various colors.

Strangely, it matches the color of my dressing table heh heh heh.

This, my friends, is Squirtle. ^.^ He’s a water pokemon, and resembles a turtle with a squirrel tail.

And this is Squitle the eyeshadow. A glittering sky-blue that resembles NYX Azur Blue if it had been riddled with tons of shimmer particles.

This is perhaps the prettiest blue eyeshadow I own in my stash if I do not say so meself. ^.^

Let’s meet Bulbasaur next, shall we?

This little angel is a strange beast with some sort of bulb on his back, hence the name. ^.^ A plant Pokemon with extra spunk is what he is.

I know what you’re going to tell me. Hanny, you have WAY TOO MANY METALLIC GREENS WITH OLIVE UNDERTONES (NYX Mermaid Green is one, I have another in the Tarte palette too). I can’t help it, really. Bulbasuar is this color. I must have this baby because it’s called Bulbasaur. Really!

Perhaps I’ll just let this sea of mystical color wow you on its own.

And now, the pièce de résistance… Pikachu!

Words can’t even be used to describe how I utterly LOVE Pikachu! Here’s a video of Pikachu to show you how cute he is. ^.^

Pikachu’s eyeshadow version is as yellow as he is, and not only that, there are red sparkles which totally remind you of Pikachu’s red cheeks, heh heh.

This doesn’t look like much, but it can pretty much cover your whole eye!

Now for the actual review.

These eyeshadows are in loose format, and are mineral eyeshadows. Charmander is safe on the lips while the others are not.

Here are some swatches. The ones to on the left are applied dry and the ones to the right are applied wet. The first two photos are Bulbasaur and Charmander, while the latter two are Squirtle and Pikachu. Upper photos of each set of two swatches were taken without flash, while the lower ones were taken with flash.

(Applied onto NC 37/40 skin)

As you can see here from these swatch photos, these babies are pigmented even if you apply them dry or wet. They are that beautifully formulated. HOWEVER, I would prefer to apply them wet because there is less fallout and they last longer on the eyelids applied wet.

And since they can be applied wet, they make great eyeliners.

Here are looks where I’ve used Pikachu and Bulbasaur as eyeliners. You just need to shake a little, wet your eyeliner brush and just brush it on. They last like liquid eyeliners if you get the mixture right. You can even use them on your waterline if you apply them wet.

As for the wear time, I’ll have to say, I’m pretty amazed. For the wear test, I wore Pikachu to Uni on my eyelids, blended out so that there’s no harsh lines.

Look how pigmented it is! Well, that’s over UDPP so they last through the school day.

This is how the eyeshadow looks after a little more than 12 hours later. It has faded a tiny, tiny bit around the edges with a teensy weensy bit of creasing but who cares? I have oily skin and live in a hot country, moving in and out of lecture halls. It practically performed better than the ones from the established cosmetic superpowers be it drugstore or high end! ^.^

So, do I like them? Yes I do! I have totally nothing to say that is negative about them. But will I purchase more? Not in the near future because I have decided that I have all the eyeshadows I need. ^.^ I can even dupe the ones in my stash with what I have now.
